New 996 Turbo owner - 2001 speed yellow
Hi Guys
I've been lurking a it lately having recently brought a 2001 speed yellow 996 Turbo tiptronic with black leather.
I've been on a bit of a journey with Porsche in recent years with the 996 Turbo as my goal - fantastic car and obtainable at current prices. I've had a 928 S4, 993 tip (shouldn't have sold that car), 986 man, 997 4S manual and now my current car. I swapped out of the 997 as it didn't get my heart, quick but not fast.
My 996 Turbo is a NZ new 44,000 km's car very clean condition but doesn't have a huge options list. It seems like it is an early car as it has solid spoke wheels not the hollows. I wasn't phased by getting a tip as in my mind it doesn't matter too much with this car, boost comes on and it is quick - I get the man vs. tip argument having had both, but I find it irrelevant, I've been told the tip keeps the turbo's on boost and can be quicker than a man car, who knows......
It's a car that has made me button off whereas the 997 never made me feel that way.
Things to do because I can't help fiddling... I've just brought, today, from John at Speedtech their 2.5 X-cellerator exhaust system. Once funds have recovered I'll do a remap, then as John advised relax and enjoy the car. I've got to say that to date John is a really good guy to deal with, incredibly helpful and responsive to a Kiwi a the other end of the world. Can't wait to get the system on the car.
I'm also getting a new set of tires and an alignment.

Hi
'Button off' meant that the horizon was rapidly approaching at a rate that gave me a bit of a fright/ thrill that I eased off on the accelerator pedal. At WOT the 997 was comfortable in how speed built and how the car drove. At WOT the Turbo makes me think about the speed and how to drive it.
I guess the price of cars here is reflective of the number available in a small market. The 996 is still a bargain when compared to a 997 Turbo here- 996 NZD60 to 70k, gen 1 997 NZD110 to 140k.
I'd love to be in the US far greater choice of both cars and services available for them. Prices in OZ are crazy, I'd be out of the market over there.

..it's kinda like "tie me kangaroo, down mate"..
"""What does "It's a car that has made me button off" mean in American?""""
So, that then begs the question:
What does "tie me kangaroo, down mate" mean in American??
[Crazy Aussies, Kiwis, Canucks, etc. Don't you all know that we took English and fixed it up for ya?]
