There is certainly a trend developing, although at this point I wouldn't necessarily say all cars will experience the failure. It's for sure something to think about when considering purchase of a GT1 variant 996.

I know about the NHTSA investigating Porsche.

My point really is that adhesives are not anything to fear or run away from.

Did the MkII 997 or current 991 use adhesive bonded coolant lines?

Adhesives are used in many applications where high strength and high temperature resistance is required.

Me either, just curious. If they did not continue to use an adhesive for the coolant lines, I would question why considering the context of this discussion.

I actually have a buddy in that area who is going to go by and look at it for me. He's a car guy and owns a bunch of different ones, including a mid eighties turbo. Don't worry, I will proceed slowly and deliberately. If it sells, prior to completion of my due diligence, it just wasn't the one for me.
There's a risk of going too slow and being too deliberate. Sure, you want to be as sure as you can be but you want to move along smartly.

If you don't you risk losing a good car to another buyer who is more efficient and reaches a decision point before you.

I can understand someone having reservations about a car not having the cooling pipes welded/pined but I personally would not reduce the price of my car or pay to have it done just to sell my car. If I decide to have it done while doing other maintenance or just because I'm concerned is another matter.

I'm certain that whatever adhesive Porsche used was billed as "permanent," too. I mean come on, am I gonna believe a a spec sheet or my own lying eyes looking at my own car in puddle of its own ****?

And I'm but one of many.

This is a good read on how adhesives are used to secure metal-to-metal joints where there is going to be transfer torsional movement or power from a shaft to a hub. Certainly if adhesives can be used in these applications, they can secure non-moving coolant pipe ends.

One of how many? And what percentage is this "many" of the entire production run?

And do you think for a skinny minute that metal fasteners/parts/welds don't fail?

I don't have those answers, Dock. But don't worry, the NHTSA should have them for you soon enough.

Another thing, it says a lot when PCA-sanctioned race events REQUIRE affected model year 911s to have corrected coolant lines in order to participate.
