Default Favorite Steering Wheel Options

Im looking for the best route to possibly switch out my steering wheel for a smaller diameter, just my preference i guess. Do you guys have any favorites that hold an airbag while also being cost effective. Maybe even some pictures. Thx for the help.

I don't know what price range you're talking about in terms of "cost effective", but here is my FVD 340mm Daytona GT steering wheel (custom order Metropol Blue leather):

Check out the "Carnewal" site. Great wheels and decent prices. High quality. email Gert at Carnewal for info. He's great to deal with.

Good find w the Carnewall. Im leaning towards the Cavallo Race 340mm leather/Alcantara for $547 + hub. I do like the flat bottom for extra lap room and just a touch of alcantara is perfect, perforated leather also.

What color is your interior?

Also, what's your sitting height? The 340mm steering wheel can cut off portions of the tach if you have a tall sitting height.

Not sure what my sitting height measurement would be but I keep the seat as LOW as the motor will take it, I am 6ft tall and keep the backrest a touch upright as well. Oh and Black interior.

I recommend you have the stock steering wheel recovered and fattened by Dallas Steering Wheel. $400 and it's a first class job.

In my case, a thicker steering wheel grip was not my primary objective, so a re-wrap would not have worked for me (in fact, it would have made my problem worse). I needed a smaller diameter steering wheel because I didn't have any room between my right leg and the steering wheel even with the seat full aft and full down; with my right hand on the steering wheel I couldn't turn right past my leg while keeping my hand in place.

A clearance issue doesn't seem to what sbefar01 is addressing with his desire for a smaller diameter steering wheel. My point is that a re-wrap isn't always the right answer.

Any other good sites for steering wheels? Carnewal is pretty good with all their different price points and choices. I imagine once i go with a 340 wheel ill prob have to recline the seat a touch to see the tachometer clearly.

This was also the dilemma I faced; the smaller diameter steering wheel covering a portion of the tach (because of my sitting height). So I was faced with these trade offs; keep the OEM steering wheel and continue to deal with the leg clearance issues (and skinny OEM steering wheel grip), or improve both the clearance and grip issues at the expense of not being able to see the entire tach. I went with the improved clearance and thicker grip and added a modification to my tach to aid in RPM situational awareness. With the 340mm steering wheel, I can't see any of the tach from just over 2000 RPM to just under 6000 RPM. So I added very thin penstriping tape that lines up with 3000 RPM and 5000 RPM. I didn't need anything to designate 4000 RPM because that is essentially "tach needle straight up".

This picture has some parallax so the lines don't line up exactly with 3 or 5, but from my driving eye-position they are right on.

I just bumped an older thread (search 996 Tiptronic Paddle shifting) and look at page 3 if it didn't work and you'll see a picture of my wheel, where my legs are and the tach is plainly visible. This was with the factory seats. The crest is the one available from Porsche dealers amongst other places.

How tall are you and what is your sitting height?

Dallas Steering Wheel did mine....it has held up well for 3 years going....

Natural brown leather bag cover and body, black perf leather at the hand positions and alcantara with a track stripe....sounds busy, but it really is nice.

The stitching as a color that would complement the natural brown.....
