The recommendation on this boards has been M1 Delvac diesel, or M1 5w-50

The large oil filter o-ring goes in the last groove. Ask me how I know.
Don't over-torque the oil filter cap. Ask me how I know that too!

Make sure you change out the small "o" ring at the stem of the filter cartridge base.

Here's a pic of the Porsche part number and size. And here's 2 pics of what was in my car and what I ordered from Porsche. The smaller ones are from Porsche and the bigger one is what I took off of the lid stem. The old bigger one was split in half when I removed it. I'm assuming the old one was Nitrile or maybe Neoprene, which might not be the right material for this application. Or maybe it was just a bit too big which caused it to fail like that. If you're going to use generic, I'd use Viton material.
The ones I ordered from Porsche of London were $11CDN each. I know the Porsche tax is excessive but that price leads me to believe that these might be a special material.

2017 bump

The Pelican article also has a few helpful tips/pics: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...Oil_Change.htm

But overall, this is the more helpful DIY. Thanks for the torque specs, etc.!

I used a MityVac to suck out the tank. No gushing mess when pulling the drain plug. Took a full 9 qts.

Cool, I was not familiar. The main reservoir does, indeed, gush dramatically.

Just to follow up, between pulling fuse C4 and cranking the engine before/after the oil change, and also pouring some oil down the filter element (I did maybe 1/3 quart?), she fired right up with no CEL.

Also, to fuel the oil debate, I'm running DT40. And my GF thinks the car sounds better.
