Can anyone confirm the part number for the oil filter? I have 8 filters for my 02 C4 and was wondering if the turbo uses the same filter.

A few notes about my first oil change:

I jacked the car up using the jack pad from Pelican parts that I had from my 2003 (986) Boxster - works great. I had to back the car up on a couple of 2x12s first in order to get my jack under it. I also set it down on a set of ramps.

I bought a 58 qt. plastic bin from K-Mart that was just the right height for catching all the oil with no spillage. They also had a nice silver oil tray that is about 4' by 30" with a lip that I put underneath the bin.

The oil filter wrench from Autozone fit but I could not use it because the nipple on top of the oil filter housing pushed my extension out. I ended up borrowing one and am going to bite the bullet for the OEM one. Looks like ECS Tuning has a a better deal on it than Pelican.

I put a little rust penetrant on the turbo plugs and they came out with no problem - 8mm allen head socket.

I bought my M1 0-40w at Walmart for 23$ /5 qts, and the filters and washers at Pelcian Parts. The magnetic drain plug they sent had bad threads but they are sending me a replacement that I'll try next time.

The piece of crap siphon I bought at Autozone didn't work either. Think I'll try a turkey baster next.

Next time should be a lot simpler.

Never had an issue with the Autozone filter tool. Maybe you are pushing it on to much

Quick tip - when working on your car, lay down one of those blue poly tarps that you can buy from Home Depot, WalMart. Great way to keep your garage floor / driveway clean from errant liquid spills, brake fluid/dust, grime, etc.

After the job - shake it out or give it a quick clean - they fold up very small for storage.

wow I like this idea, everything in one box sent to the house. Offer the 5W50, mag plug, all 4 crush washers and filter, and there is good value there on time saved shopping and running around for everything. Even better, one kit with mag plug, one without.

I change the small o ring on the filter base stem every other change. Being the oil is changed 1x year due to lack of driven mileage. The tank hold more than 4.5 qts.

You need a 27mm open ended wrench to fit the tank "counter" hex. If not, you bend a very expensive oil resevoir tank. It's the drain plug next to the "j" pipe. Just enuf to loosen the drain plug, then pull the wrench, unscrew the drain plug by hand and when there is less then 1/32 of a thread left, the plug will fall out of the tank, just as you are adjusting your grip and be followed by a 100 mph oil spigot. Then rely on your amazing sense of reaction and immediately reach into the bottom of the pan in an attempt to retrieve the drain plug and sustain third degree burns. Use lotsa beer to help cool you hand afterward. It is good to have a cooler with ice to keep the beer cold and put your hand into. Wipe oil film off of subsequent beers.

OK, I've got a question - has anyone tried using an oil extractor? It seems like the oil filler has a tube that would accommodate a dipstick - if its even an air vent I'm thinking you should be able to put a line down and suck the oil out of at least half the motor (I'm thinking of leaving the turbos alone anyway. If it doesn't get it all, at least it minimizes Niagara Falls of oil mess and once its in the extractor its easier to cart away and dump... THOUGHTS???
