Default Engine light flickering - drive to workshop

Ok this is positively weird. Car was in garage for a week. Up to this point no problems smooth sailing. It was very cold we had -15 degrees Celsius for a few days. So I left it asleep. It has now warmed up to +10C. Yesterday I started the car and drove off. I didn’t go beyond 3K rpm. All fine, then once warmed up I went beyond 3K and car started to cut in and cut out like it has hit the rev limiter with sort of frrrr sound to go with it. I firstly thought it’s a PSM (aggressively kicking in as roads were slippery) as it was similar in perception but it was definitely happening on the engine side and there was no PSM light coming on. Then OH-NO, engine light came on flickering with a message drive car to workshop at once. I’ve cut the ignition whilst driving restarted and light went off. So, I thought it must be a sensor of sort. I stopped, disconnected the battery and reconnected after 10 seconds. Started the car, drove over 3K and wooshhh turbos kicked in all back to normal. WTF? Any ideas? Drove car today again, all fine.

I had exactly the same issue last week! it ended up being the coil packs, they were all cracked (my car has 28k miles) so we replaced them (and the spark plugs) yesterday and now she drives perfectly. I did not get a CEL but when my mechanic pluged the car into the reader I had misfires. Other thing that you should check is your MAF.
Good luck

Sounds like condensation/arcing in the coil packs...if not, then perhaps a MAF issue.

Sounds about right. I have car booked in for service beginning of Jan. I was thinking of changing coil packs anyway as a preventative measure so there I go...

What plugs did you put in there? OEM or anything else?

If it doesn't turn out to be the coil packs, I don't believe MAF failure causes CEL on ROW cars.

make sure that when you do the coils you use the newer ones, P/N 997-602-104-00
I used the stock Bosh sparkplugs, P/N 999-170-195-90

Thanks will do. Is your car tunned? I was told OEM plugs were Beru R6 727 and decided to go with Bosch FR6 LCD.

my car only has a mild tune, I decided to go with the stock Bosh because I was told they were better than the Beru. Porsche lists both plugs as OE.
