Default retro fit X-50

is it possible?

I have a 996 TT 01 with porsche extended warranty

I can always buy the chip and filter option from 9ff wich together with my already installed exhaust will make my car around 500 Ps...(9ff offerd me a ridiculus low price for the chip and air filter as an "old customer" even I have personally haven't bought the exhaust _ the car had it already installed whan I bough it)

but this way I will loose my warranty and will not be able to use it even now that i have just paid for 12 monts, as well as I will not be able to renew it.

is it possible to get a retro fit X-50 kit

what are the excact parts of it?

from what I heard its K24's, different intercoolers, different mapping maybe exhaust and maybe some differences in the transmission and $17K in price.

You probably could, but the cost is what I'd be concerned about. You'd be more than a few bucks ahead by going with one of the tuners (like UMW) and installing a package from them.

Talk to one of the tuners. The kit is overpriced compared to aftermarket.

The X50 options didn't arrive till '02. However, you could ask your dealer to reprogram your ECU to the X50 powerkit.

Purchase a set of K24's and be done with your mods till your warranty expires.

the "X-50" is basically new tune and K-24 turbos with GT2 intercoolers. so yes you can "do it". but seems like your real issue is voiding a warranty. since you just paid for the warranty enjoy the car the way it is it is already awesome then when you are ready to upgrade next year you have many options. hybrid your K-16's or K 24's the possibilities are almost endless, call Kevin he will guide you.

In theory, if you change it to x50, they may void it anyway....do what Kevin said via the dealer...k24's if and only if they'll flash you the x50 code. Then sit on it until the warranty expires. Get it IN WRITING that this is not going to void your warranty from the dealer first of course.

Per many, there is little difference in the intercoolers. I am not sure there is ANY difference in the tranny at all.

Once the warranty expires, follow Tom Kerr's advice.

So...

buying a set of K-24s with a flashed ECU will set me up with an X-50 kit?

do i need as well a different ECU in order to get it flashed to x-50 specs?

I could be completely wrong, but I "think" you get the k24's from the dealer at some huge price (or perhaps Kevin if there is no difference) and you ask the dealer to put the x50 flash on the car.

Now, I am not sure many dealers will do that...or can do that....or if it will void a cpo or other warranty, etc.

In a nutshell, call Kevin. I don't want to be the source of bad data...if anyone knows this stuff more securely, please post. In the end, I've gone with Kevin's suggestions 100% and been better off for doing so in terms of both happiness and dollars.

(to be open, I am a happy customer of UMW)

Jeff
