How high does your 996TT clutch engage?
I just test drive for the first time a 996TT and i noticed the clutch engagement was rather high for a car having 8500 miles. Is this normal or what?

My OEM clutch engaged without much pedal travel from "on the floor". My LWFW/clutch setup engages on the opposite end...probably in the last 1/4 of pedal travel to fully released.

The car i test drove started moving when i slightly released the clutch pedal while driving in the parking lot but it felt to me that to fully engage the clutch i would have to almost get off the clutch pedal otherwise it would slip at higher RPM. Maybe im not used to it? My 993 would engage fully 1/2 way.

My LWFW/clutch setup engages also to high,I found it difficult to drive so I mounted a piece of rubber under my clutch pedal,I can not push the pedal to the floor anymore and when I release it now it engages about after 1 inch..Easy to drive now..

I just bought a 2001 turbo. I find the clutch to feel very light compared to my 2002 C4S but it is definitely fully engaged by the time the pedal is halfway out. It is taking me a bit to get used to the change. At first I thought there was a problem.

shant: this is nomal to the 996tt and its the only thing that i dislike. clutch engagement point may fluctuate. i've had my 03 now for about 8 months and i'm still trying to get used to it. my biggest problem is trying to achieve a quick take-off from a stand still position without having to over-rev the engine. however once the car is moving...watch out!!

I just did a search and i found this thread https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...agement+driver where a bunch of people were saying that the engagement of clutch is pretty high. So i guess its normal for these cars. I personally dont like it at all. Is there a mod i can do to fix it? I plan on getting 996TT very soon.

I think you can't fix it,you can't adjust anything to engage faster.
I changed all the pieces that's needed for the hydrolics (actuator, slave master, the little pump under the clutch pedal) but nothing solved it.
I just mounted a rubber piece under my pedal so I can't push it so deep anymore and it engages like it should be now..

From my experience - it's normal.
Manny, converting to a non-assisted clutch will solve this issue. I felt the exact same way and took steps to correct it. I love my clutch action now - it's perfectly predictable - no more odd take-offs. BTW - after 4 years, it was still impossible to predict how the clutch would engage...

john: how did you go about the change. is the pedal feel mush stiffer? before getting the tt i test drove a 04 gt3 and found to the clutch too hard for every day driving. my previous na 996's were a pleasure to dive, totally different clutch feel with positive engagement every time.

Manny,
The pedal effort is significantly increased. If you just step in the car and compare it to a stock 996TT, it will feel dramatically different. However, if you drive the car for a few days, it begins to feel normal. I don't mind the increased effort at all. Remember, the 996TT clutch effort is less than a Hyundai...
If you are in stop and go traffic a lot, it would get old. If you are not, the few times you may be in heavy traffic is well worth the every day enjoyment of a proper and very well controlled launch from EVERY stop. This is a great mod for the 996TT.
Here is a link to some information regarding the install...http://69.13.120.185/forums/showthread.php?t=109657
There is more information about this if you search 6speed.
You should look into the new EVO conversion kit, but I would expect more pedal effort if you go down this road. IMHO, the increased pedal effort is not as bad as people think it may be...sort of like nobody wants to go to a bigger turbo than the K16 because of the lag, but once you do - you discover that an inconsequential amount of lag was keeping you from a lot more power and the enjoyment it provides. If you feel the way you do, I think you would love the non-assisted clutch - I have enjoyed driving my car more since this was done.

Ditto. The clutch action is the only thing about the car that I dislike. I find the 996TT otherwise to be the most perfect car I have ever owned.
Do the non-assist clutch conversion - you will love the way the car drives after that...
