Default GT3 wheel/tire combination all season

I live in the beautiful state of Colorado.
It may snow here on any given day at any time of the year.
Yes, we like that here. And, yes, I know that a GT3 is not a winter car.

But I'm also that crazy Colorado guy that rides his bike to work year round.
And when the snow comes, I am one of the only guys out there who would then jump in his Boxster with snow tires to drive to work, because my other family members needed my BMW X3.

Porsches are beautiful in the snow with the proper tire....
I'd recommend trying it some day.

Anyhow. Yes, I know what a C4 is. And no, at this time I don't want to trade the GT3 in for a C4.

Trouble is, I can't find a tire to fit the stock wheels that is good below 32 degrees F.

Can I put a different wheel on the GT3, perhaps from a C2 or C4 996 that
would have an all season tire choice for that size wheel?

Thanks for your input!

Check out the Continental DWS tires. You have to go narrower than stock. I believe these are available 215 and 275 sections in 18" sizes. That's probably your best bet on stock rims.

I like your attitude

I graduated from DU (University of Denver) about 199 years ago. I had a 280ZX and a beater CJ5. I usually chose the Z over the Jeep even when it was crazy snowy and icy out.

I love seeing Porsches out on the road in winter weather here in Colorado. My choice has always been a second set of wheels for my dedicated winter tires. The winters stay on my car from mid-October to mid-May. I generally buy aftermarket wheels for my second set, but you may be able to find some OE wheels that will fit the GT3. Does Porsche have an official winter wheel/tire recommendation for the GT3? Your dealer should be able to tell you.

Thanks for all of your input...

I'll check out the Continentals. I have those tires on my X3.
I'll also call the dealer for their input. I hadn't thought of that simple solution!

Cheers!

Another thing to consider is that dealerships sometimes sell "takeoff wheels" at a huge discount. These are wheels that were original equipment on a new Porsche, but the buyer immediately swaps them out for different OE wheels or aftermarket wheels. As an example, I bought a set of "as new" 18" wheels for my Cayenne from Prestige Porsche in Denver for $500. I used them as the winter wheels for that vehicle when I owned it. It's unlikely that they will have something that will fit a 996 GT3, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I have run Blizzack 18's winter tires on low cost pretty wheels from these chaps for years. I run them Nov - April. I switch to summer Z rated 18's for the street on these same wheels April - Nov. Call On-site tires in Denver. Tell them Jay sent you. They come to your house mate! They fit and look great:
