Powdrhound, are these the specific H&R studs you use?

May I ask where you source?
I think I have Rennline installed, and want to be prepared for replacement.

Correct, those are the ones. I get the 40mm ones, part #1454005. Those have room to spare even with thick center wheels like E88s and can even accommodate a 7mm spacer. The last time I got them when I changed out my hubs I bought them here as they had the best price with free shipping.

Where you get them doesn't matter as everyone drop ships direct from H&R.

Thanks - perfect. I was on the H&R site, did not find installation instructions/torque specs - do you have them as well? Do you use any loctite?
I like the fact that these have the machined head, that should make installation a breeze.

Install is a breeze. The locktite is pre-applied to the studs already. It's the pink stuff you see on the threads in the pictures. Just screw the studs into the hub and torque to 32 ft.lb using a 6mm allen socket. Torque wheel bolts to 118 and you'll be good to go.

For full disclosure, the studs that broke on my car were H&Rs. See my photos in my previous post. I'm not blaming H&R -- or any stud manufacturer -- for a substandard product. And I didn't install the H&Rs on my car, nor did I own the car for a period of time during which those studs were installed. So I don't know their entire history. But I can say without reservation that they appear to have run in an undertorqued condition -- which is the bane of all wheel attachment hardware.

Has anyone had a failure with MSI studs?
I use them, have had failures with others, but never MSI. I only torque to 95 ft-lb. 118 sounds high to me...

Yea, I was running some black bull nose APEX the last 2.5 years and had no problems with them but the H&R are less $ and easier to install with the hex head.

Another data point... One of our local track guys recently lost two studs on the left rear wheel of his 2014 Cayman. They sheared at the hub. He was using ACS Track-Studs purchased from Apex Competition Systems on 4/30/14. They were M14x1.5 Bullet nose race studs, 81mm long. He ran them for 3 years using 118ft.lbs. This is not the first I've heard of the Apex studs failing. Again, choose wisely and stick to a maintenance schedule that you are comfortable with. Just like anything, all suspension items should be on time out replacement schedule...

For another data point - I ran studs purchased from Stable (I think they are Rennline?). Did not make it through one light DE season before 1 sheared at the hub.
I went back to stock bolts (for now), but may try the H&R after all, and torque to 118 as recommended above. If I can get 3 DE seasons out of them, that's fair. I miss the convenience of studs for sure...

If you can obtain photographs (including good close ups) of the failures and post them, that would be interesting. Also, was the track where this guy ran (or were the tracks, if more than one), primarily run in the clockwise direction?
