Default Caliper rebuild

Anyone do a caliper rebuild recently? Deciding whether or not to DIY it as my dust boots need replacement.

Did you use the racing brake kit or 996 cup? What's the cost of the cup kit?

I've seen old threads but nothing current.

How timely.. ! I just rebuilt one of my rear calipers last night!!

I didn't put in new pistons, just new seals and new dust boots. They were aftermarket items made by Centric. (I think Centric owns StopTech)

+1. Did mine over the winter with the centric kits. Also got mine from Dave Z but after the fact realized they can be had much cheaper on Amazon. My Pistons still looked great I had no reason to replace them.

The hardest part of the whole deal is getting the Pistons to pop out. Various 2x6 boards will aid in this process compressed air is a must I needed a good amount of pressure to get a couple o the Pistons out. Proof that despite the inner seals looking on they can get hard and cause binding.

Did you guys have little metal disks over the ceramic pucks? Mine seem to.

I might hold off and just run until they start leaking. I don't street drive and dust boots are going to just burn up anyway.

metal disks have been gone for quite some time for me. They were there originally though

odds are if you wait till they start to leak you've allowed enough dirt / debris to get in there to where you've likely scored a piston and require a much more expensive repair.

Keeping the outer dust seals fresh is a good preventative measure to keeping the rest of the components healthy.

I got the ceramic puck.. it just fell off when I took the caliper off. I reinstall it during rebuild.

I did one of my fronts that was sticking about a month ago. I just picked up 5 cheap low profile"C" clamps, and popped out one at a time. They came flying out with compressed air. Be careful! Also used Zeckhausen. I'll have to check Amazon for the next one.
Thanks for the tip, Andy.

BTW, I signed up for Friday at MO with OVR.
