Smile A lap at the Nurburgring with a 6T3

Hi there,

A quick share from France... more precisely from Germany, further to a trip to the Nurburgring, in order to "introduce" the 996 GT3 to this fantastic track.

If you have 8"40 to loose, you can have a look to "my" video (not fantastic, but really enjoyed the ride... even if I'm not faster than with my Opel Speedster n/a) :

https://youtu.be/dxmVEoMEs54

Then, if you'd like to enjoy a real great video, take a look at this one.
I gave the wheel to a friend, who usually drives an R8 v10, during VLN (endurance series) races at the Nurburgring.
He was discovering the car (very first with a 911 by the way), and promissed not to scare me too much.
Even if he felt slow and safe... it has been a great moment for me, I'll let you imagine

Cheers,

Joe

Good stuff.

Your friend seemed to feel comfortable with your car, even though it was his first time in a 911. What did he think of your GT3?

wow!!!! That was great! Thank you for sharing. My "Ring" experience so far involves my PS3 and a racing simulator/Sparco seat contraption (usually with a dachshund in my lap)

Thanks for sharing guys! Your friend picked up the drive quickly. Awesome. Jarmol, great driving there. I am installing my cup wheel over the next few weeks. I love that wheel! Cheers!!!

Yes he did enjoy

He wrote his feedback, but in french lol (see hereunder for french speaking (Canadian ?) guys )

The car is full stock, with street tires (Michelin PS2), and a "normal" wheel alignment setup.

In short,

He dislikes :
- driving position, with the wheel almost not adjustable (contacts between knees and wheel)
- back "orientation" (as the seats are not adjustable at all)
- gearbox ratios too long on the road (during the "morning dry run" on public roads)
- when releasing throttle pedal in curves, on the road, body moves are impressive (LSD impact)

He loves :
- engine, especially over 5 000 rpm
- drivetrain precision
- drivetrain reactivity : perfect if you're perfect, but "over-reacts" when unprecise or hesitating (wheel or throttle correction are causing immediates and "visible" reactions)
- suspensions are hard enough to limit rolling effect, but not too much to make the car hard to drive on the wet (according to him, but only drivent in dry conditions)
- Traction is perfect
- Braking is perfect, even if street tyres are "not enough" to really take advantage of the brakes
- Rewarding to drive : perfect driving = predictable and perfect body reactions... but the opposite seems to be true also

Thanks for sharing! Always enjoy watching movies from the ring.

Just a little note on his comment on LSD issues when going of throttle in corners. IMO this is just a typical 911 syndrome and no LSD issue. Probably needs more time in 911s to appreciate the rear engine character.

Impressive car and driving considering it's stock with PS2's on the RING!

Thanks! My car has Manthey K400 kit with Manthey spec KW suspension and mk2 brakes. I am running Michelin PSC2 tyres.

I really don't know how many laps I have done there, around 200 is my guess.

Joe,

I had an Opel Speedster for 10 years and switched to a 996 GT3 last year. Interesting to see that there are other people like me.

I will agree to the seating position being not ideal in the 996. My knees also get in contact with the wheel, and this is because of 1) wheel diameter being too big and 2) one cannot pull it wide enough. However, I do thing that the gear ratios are good for German roads - If you want to drive 300+ km/h (which I do occasionally), they're great.

Will watch your vids. Fortunately, I live unfar the Ring (hovever, I only go therr 2-4 times a year).

Interesting how you pass the Ferrari 430 and other cars before Schwedenkreuz. This is a tricky part of the track and much more difficult that it looks. I would not drive that far on the left side as I have seen too many heavy accidents there.

Re your friend: knowing the track is key here. Much more than on other tracks (71 turnes are difficult to memorize). No wonder that he masters this that well if he takes part in VLN. He would have been fast with almost any car, no matter whether 911 or even front wheel drive (Megabe RS). Will watch it again ;-)
