Default Durability of GT3 lower control arms?

I thought I would ask over here since quite a few of your track your GT3's. Presently I have a Cayman with OEM 996 GT3 front lower control arms. A common mod for having adjustable camber. From time to time I read about crashes resulting from lower control arm failures in the race/DE forum. Are the lower control arms a timed out consumable that should be replaced after a period of time? Any input greatly appreciated.

I've seen the rear LCAs break, the ball joint snapped. Not pretty. I swapped my fronts to the PMNA 997 GT3 cup arms and the rears to the beefier PMNA 997 RSR arms. If you track heavily, I would consider them a consumable item.

powdrhound, thanks for the reply and sharing. I had my suspicions and will treat the control arms as a consumable.

I use Fabcar arms on my 996 cup...pretty much indestructible. Ball joints are super heavy duty too.

Do you have a part number and source for those Fabcar arms?

Thanks,

JA

Thanks, good to know. I'll contact them when the time comes. Probably sooner than later...

Dave Klym at Fabcar...not sure what part numbers are but I do not think they make them anymore. Sometimes a used set will pop up on RL.

Wondering what replacement parts cost? Might make financial sense (lol) to go this route in the long-term...?
Cheers,

It sounds like it's a ball joint that usually fails. Is that true?

Who can press new ball joints into the control arms? I think I heard of someone who was doing it. It would be nice to replace them periodically.

I landed up full RSS arms. I didn't realize other choices when the time came.

Well it's just a TRW ball joint from what I can tell. Pressing a new one in is another story.

I had one of the original rear LCA's on my 996 GT3 fail with over 100k miles and a TON of track use. "Stem" of the ball joint failed. Fortunately, the only damage was to the plastic inner fender liner.
