My RS doesn't have that. Only the string that you run up the front of the hood by the windshield.

I can confirm the information from 997rs4.0.

The 996 RS shouldn´t have this switch, not assembled in the car and not delivered with the car.

Some great information in this thread about the 6RS. However, the original question remains unanswered: are there any street-legal 6RS in the USA?

Thx,

Vivian

1- show and display that I have seen in San Diego many years ago. Not sure if that makes it street legal though

Thx, christallon.

I saw your exact white 6GT3 in Montreal today (I'm here on business), unless, of course, that was you?

I have a street legal 996 European GT2 Clubsport that I have owned since 2003. At that time I remember two red and white GT3RS' in the shop being imported to become US legal.

I can't get a definitive answer as to whether or not I can buy a US street-legal version of the 996RS. If anyone knows of such a car that may be for sale, please let me know, thanks.

Option number 2 is to buy one in UK/Ireland and park it over there. I get back home 2 or 3 times a year, so I'd get some use out of it, but not put on too many miles. I've got a line on a couple for sale in UK, although (as ever) I wish I'd made the move to buy earlier as prices are rising.

Vivian.

I'm sure you will know if/when a US based federalized RS comes up for sale, but it'll be a long shot. Additionally, the DOT/EPA here will not allow the car on the road for 25 years from manufacture date without bringing it into full US compliance, which is a serious PIA, so if you can buy one abroad, and enjoy it there, that will be your best solution!

My GT3 is a Clubsport/RS in most every way short of the VIN, so that might be the best way to get the feel of the RS here in the states without the hassle.

Definitely looks like I'll have to buy in UK if I want one anytime soon. It's difficult to put a US dollar value on them, however.

If one assumes that in the US a top notch 996GT3 is $80k, where would that put an RS? The current UK asking prices are about $198k in today's exchange rate. I know it's not an exact science, but that's a delta that's way beyond the 997GT3/RS equivalents.

Vivian,

Please PM me if you are interested in 996rs in Europe. I keep a close eye on these and have a good friend that does it for a business. He found me my car a couple of years ago from a Danish collector. I overpaid big time at the time but looking back it wasn't to bad

There is so few 996rs left in good condition, so you won't find any on the open market. These cars where bought by driving enthusiast and treated that way around the tracks in Europe. Cant even compare it to the 4.0. Plenty of those are bubble wrapped, not the case with 6rs!
