Default CAT choice

Hi Guys, It's time to get my car smogged in California, and currently I have Cargraphic cans attached to stock headers and a Fabspeed Cat-less bypass. The system works great, but I doubt it will pass without the Cats. Should I source a set of stock CATS to get it through, or should I consider a set of 100 or 200 cell sport cats attached to a bypass, like Fabspeed does, and leave them installed for good? Will these get me through CA smog? Will they restrict power, sound etc..? Thanks for any ideas.

You can always get stock cans, get smogged, then remove or Cargraphic x-pipe with cats

Thanks man. Do the Sport Cats impact performance at all?

With stock cats shouldn't be a problem to smog that set up. Mike

I use stock full exhaust when time to smog. I did some searches on "drive cycles" to get the car ready to pass smog. #1 idle for 2 min 15 sec. #2 drive 20-30mph for 3 min. #3 then 40-60mph for 15 min. #4 stop and idle for 5 mins.
#5 drive back to smog shop or your shop for the techs to plug in and make sure everything is clear. Drive this process under 3000 rpm and do not drive over 60mph.
This sounds crazy but it did work for me.
Good luck.
After smog completed and passed i put the real full exhaust back on the car.

Default Cargraphic X pipe Cat

Drew,

Can't tell from the pictures, does the Cargraphic X pipe cat match up to the rest of the stock exhaust?

Thanks

I am pretty sure you can use all stock parts with their x-pipe. I had cargraphic cans and was just about to order their x-pipe but decided to go center exit. The Cargraphic stuff is very good quality, from my experience.

I am not a tech guy but I would imagine there would be roughly a 10-12 hp gain. I think of the 3 exhaust components (headers, cats, mufflers), changing the cats on the 6gt3 will yield the most performance gains

Thanks guys, very helpful....So....4porsch, I have a question. I was going to plug the stock Cats into the Cargraphic mufflers that already exist on the car to get it through smog. Is there a reason why you bother with the stock mufflers too? It doesn't seem like the mufflers would have any impact on a smog test one way or the other.

Also, thanks for the prep and warm up routine you outlined. I will follow that program just prior to the test. Cheers!

I'm not an expert, but would think your plan would work. I use full stock exhaust as it is not compatible with the special exhaust system.
Good luck.

Oh, right, yes I recall that badass set-up you had made. Cool!

I think I'm good given the Fabspeed bypass bolts to the Cargraphics. The Fabspeed is designed to plug straight into the stock mufflers so I should be good as is. Cheers!

FWIW, as of this year CA no longer requires vehicles made past 2000 to pass the tailpipe (sniffer) tests. They just plug into the OBDC port and check for faults.

So I just received a pair of stock 6-3 CATS and I'm going to install them over the weekend. The CATS look slightly different in terms of tube angles indicating to me that they are Left/Right side specific. Am I right, and if so, how do I know which CAT goes on which side? Will it be obvious once I'm down there? Many Thanks

Just check part numbers against Parts manual.
