joshd, as Andy mentioned you should do the lighter crank pulley as well when doing the lwfw conversion. It balances out the rotational mass. The heavy stock pulley will create an imbalance and can spin off. I did the 996 rs but the evom looks good too.

Cheers

I've installed dozens and dozens of LWFW kits since the 996 GT3s were new. Most found their way to the track and many were track rats. Of all these I have never had a single throwout bearing failure that I can recall. Have had a number of pins break in pressure plate, but no throwout bearings. Not sure what they are doing, but seems odd to have so many with same issue.

The LWFW on the 4.0 kit is lighter also.
That's what I bought from Suncoast and works great in my 6gt3
Bought lightweight crank pulley from Suncoast.

Guys,

Anyone have shops say they won't use outside parts? Thus if I want the shop to install the LWFW I have to pay their parts prices, which aren't anywhere close to Suncoast it appears.

Should I get a new shop? Two shops in Austin have told me this now.

They probably do that to protect themselves if you ordered the wrong parts.. I would find another shop though.

I am sure they would prefer you buying parts from them (they can make the difference, which can be 20%+). But I provided the part and the shop that did the installation was okay with it. Good standup people there!

Never had an issue with any shop here in So Cal install parts provided by me. I negotiate an install price and all is good. If something fails with the part it's my issue, if it's labor it's theirs, but this can get prickly. It's probably better to have the shop provide everything, but it's usually more expensive. I prefer to buy the parts myself and take the risk the parts won't fail. So far, so good.

I say find a shop you can work with

if you drive down to San Antonio, I would install the kit you have purchased or would purchase from any reliable source like Suncoast. Same day turn around of course.

No issues with this mod.

In the 3.6l Mezger this will work just fine. The issue lays when you get into the unbalanced 3.8-4.0 engines. Nothing a harmonic balancer can't fix.

Do it, enjoy it and wonder why the car wasn't delivered that way.

Interesting, I suffered the same fate on the weekend.

Had never heard of this but, after having a clutch failure at Road Atlanta on the weekend, the boroscope shows at least one broken tab, possibly 2.

Gearbox was rebuilt in 2013 and there might have been a 'bit' of chatter on clutch release since then (according to a friend), but not enough that it was obvious that something was wrong.

Dropping eng/gearbox as we speak, but would love to know if you guys have any idea of what can cause this.

Viperbob?
