Porsche 996 GT3: Secondary Hood Release
Here is a simple but important DIY for several Porsche models. I have seen numerous cases where the cars sit for a long period of time and the battery fully drains. No problem, just charge the battery. Well, how can you do that with an electric latch mechanism? Don't freak out! There is a way to get it open.
Tools Required:
Battery Charger / Tender
First step is to find the fuse panel located on the driver side foot well. Review the image below
Pop the fuse panel cover off by gently pulling outward from the hole at the top to reveal the fuse panel. The positive terminal is highlight in red
Pull the tab outward to expose the terminal as shown below
Connect the positive cable to the terminal as shown below
Grab the negative cable and attach it to the strike plate on the driver door jamb as shown below.
Turn on your battery charger to 12 volt trickle charge. No need for a lot of juice. This will be enough to give the hood mechanism enough juice to function.
Hit the hood release switch on the driver door sill.
VICTORY!
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to ask. Hope this has helped! Enjoy
