gt3 chin spoiler
can anyone tell me how the chin spoiler is attached to the bumper.... is the the plastic expansion rivets used or the breakaway plastic screws and anchors type... I destroyed my mk1 spoiler (2 days for next DE) and have the mk2 chin spoiler, so Im just gonna have to mount whats readily available. The Mk2 is alot bigger than the mk1 and dont want this flying off on the track.... TIA

Mk2 spoiler has different mounts than mk1 so better do it right.
Mk1 doesnt go to the sides at all.
both use plastic push type expansion rivets.
I use three bolts because I lost two spoilers and almost killed a dog.

You can use either the push-in or philips screw head style rivets. oem uses some 1/4" wide double sided tape along the length of the splitter. For extra security, use racers tape (I use black duct tape) to cover the gap between the splitter and the bumper cover to make sure air can't get between the two and force them apart.
edit: John knows mk1 vs mk2 so listen to him

I use the screw type expansion rivets part# 999.507.427.40 Also use 3m double sided bodypanel tape. I do 2 lines, 1 (continuous line) infront of the splitter holes and 1 inbetween the holes. As you get around the corner you'll only need 1 line of tape as it tappers, you'll see that when you do it though. Turn a corner down on the tape backing before fitting to make a 'pull tab'. Long enough that you can get a pair of needle nose pliers to it when the splitter is attached. I found this the best way as it allows you to position the holes with the clips. Then once in position pull the tape backing off with the pliers and press firmly together.
Done this 5 or 6 times now and this is by far the easiest way...

I use the plastic push plugs - not metal rivets. Sure, I lost a couple of splitters over the years from road debris or my own foolishness. The pop plugs are designed to break loose. Better to lose the spoiler than transfer stress into the bumper.
Of course, last month I forgot to put tape between bumper and spoiler as an air seal and the thing came loose at 140+ on the back straight at the Glen. I heard a thump and the guy behind me said he saw it sailing about 40 feet up in the air.
Its a disposable part.

just make sure you do not see daylight between the splitter and bumper cover. Speed tape at any place with light will work. If the is light air will travel through and somewhere above 110mph it will depart.

Guys I ve tried all described above.
I think that only if you add 3 small metal bolts in the center want hurt the bumper and will keep it in place even if you hit a ramp or something with low speed. if you put at their back a small stoper then if you hit something really hard the bolts will let go and not the bumper bumper is secured.
Ask me how I know.

I use sheet metal screws and 'Alex' caulking with silicone both on the lip iteslf, and around the perimeter after it's installed. It's worked well all year and I've definitely hit some cones....

^^--- yes, at speed. Keeps air from going under the car and therefore reduses the lifting effect of that air being forces under the car. The air is also diverted up which flows through the 3 radiators.
