GT3 seat belt/harness FAQ
Installing this week, so I wanted to confirm. When using the OEM 3-point belt only, route the belt through both cutouts in the GT3 seat, both by the head and by the lap. When using a 5- or 6-point harness AND the 3-point OEM belt (not at the same time, harness on the track and belt on the street), route the belt through the upper GT3 seat cutout (by the head) but NOT through the lap cutout (because it will bind with the harness using that cutout).
Right?
For bonus points, where is a good place to get spare male 3-point belt fittings so that when using the harnesses the seatblt gong will not sound?

chris,
male buckle: check wrech yard. dealer only sells whole belt, it's in the $300 category. i got my from parts heaven, they got ads in panorama i don't have that in my office. it's like $80 or so. rip off i know.
as far as belt routing. i have seen it done both ways from pix of euro GT3RS. however, i have both harness and oem belt. the oem belt is routed through both shoulder hole and hip hole at ALL times. when i am on track, oem is routed as above, and i carefull arrange the lap belt and shoulder belt of harness such that there is no binding issues. when on street, i push all the harness straps back out of the holes such that shoulder harness rest on roll bar while lap harness sits on carpet beside the seat.
IF you really do have binding issues, try 2" lap belts. i have used both 3 and 2" lap belts, none has/had binding issues.

Thanks, John.
I'ved ordered 2" lap belts on the harness, so maybe I can route as you do without binding on the OEM belt. Is your harness lap belt over or under the OEM belt?

Chris, I have my OEM belt through both holes iin the GT3 seat. I use the Schroth harness with 2 inch lap and 3 inch shoulder straps. No issues. On track you have three choices:
Wear the harness then put the oem belt on over it;
Take the passenger side OEM belt and plug the buckle into the one on the driver's side;
Get a spare buckle from any recent vintage car (any make they are all the same) and plug it in the driver's side fitting.
Otherwise the damn warning chime will ding-ding-ding forever when you drive off. Oddly enough my 2002 GT2 did not do this but the 2004,2005 cars do.

Thanks, Bob. Do you route the OEM belt under or over the lap harness belt? Sounds like it is over so that on the street when you're not wearing the harness you either tuck it through the seat bottom or sit on it?

Chris, the OEM belt is long enough to wrap behind the seat and plug into the buckle. That's with the belt run only through the top hole. I felt that the stock belt worked just fine wrapped over the lower seat bolster.

I've got the 6-pt Schroth with 3 inch lap belts and there is no problem routing it thru the GT3 seat opening with the stock 3-point belt below it. I take the harness out when not at the track, as it only takes a few minutes to remove and little bit longer to install.
For a male buckle, I got mine from a junkyard off a VW Golf. Cost was $2.

even with oem belt routed through both holes, it's still long enough to go behind the seat and plugged into female buckle. but if you keep doing this the oem belt will get some strange folds in them. i did that for one year on my c2 and the oem belt didn't look very nice after a whie.

Interesting. John's harness lap belt is under the 3-point belt and Holger's is over. I'llhave to see what works better for me.
I hope I did not make a mistake in ordering bolt in betls from Schroth rather than the snap on version. The fellow on the phone said that the snap in required drilling and mounting a eye bolt and plate and the bolt in would use existing bolts on the seat/frame..... I hope I'll be able to move out of the way or remove the harness lap belt when not on the track!

Chris, I used the Brey-Krause brackets for my belts. They work fine, but I really don't bother unclipping the belts. They just fall along side the seats. You do not need to drill any holes.
