Oil Fun...
Changing my oil and filter, wanted to confirm estimated quantity for recharge so looked in my Bentley book for guidance. "9 quarts"...ok my memory is not totally shot! Wait...next line down says "with filter change 9.25 quarts."! What? Next section down says: "Porsche Recommended oil service interval: oil change 15,000 miles." Ok, knew that alternative fact. Next line down says: "Filter change 30,000 miles"!!! I have not checked the owners manual, so please no little angry guy waving the bookhowever my guess is it says the same thing.
The Porsche marketing folks really did a fine job with these recommendations! I may switch to the Mobil1 "Annual Protection" advertised as "1 year or 20,000 miles". NAW! This is the product hawked by the 3 inch tall Kevin Harvick. I am happy with the kool-ade drinking DT40!

Hi...start with 9 quarts and then run the car and top up if you need to. Key is giving time for all the oil to drain. Not bad to take a reading before you drain, and if you collection can has measuring marks, see how much comes out and replace with the same amount. But be sure to read the manual and measure the oil level per their instructions. My current 2000 996 had totally opposite instructions compared to my 2003 996. Not sure if they changed the location of the sensors or what. I like Mobil 1 0-40W...and I change my oil every 3 to 5 thousand miles or six months at the absolute latest...and always a new filter every time.

Thanks, John. I jack mine up, pull drain plug, let drain, change filter then lower to ground over a shallow pan and allow to drain for at least 24 hours. Like is said "out with the bad-in with the good"!

Ok...So what is NORMAL...who decides what is NORMAL...who says the deciders are NORMAL?
Retirement and a garage has many advantages. One example is the oil draining, in addition to "thinking" about changing the engine mounts while the car is on jack stands for the last two weeks. Weather sux so I wouldn't be driving it anyway! Another example could be yard work...do one section, come in read Rennlist, watch Judge Judy, nap...go back out do some work...repeat. Its not necessarily an old thang(well it could be) as a "I've got plenty of time and have run pretty hard most of my life so why not slow down when I can and enjoy thing".
