Low oil pressure after service

The relief spring is behind a bolt on the bottom of the oil pump housing , if you look under the car it's near the engine mounting bracket and exhaust system , further forward in the middle of the sump is the drain plug for changing the oil then further forward still towards the right is the oil canister, which does have a bypass valve inside but it's inaccessible without removing the canister itself ! But I can see how you might get confused, I think the suggestion is that the oil relief spring bolt on the bottom of the oil pump may have been removed instead of the drain plug, behind this bolt is three parts, a spring with a plastic dowel inside it and a piston, if the spring had broken or is missing, will definitely cause problems as when proper oil pressure is reached the piston moves down as the spring compresses to send oil back to the sump, if the spring is broken the piston will move easier, hence low oil pressure
I think you need to check this assembly to see if everything is there and spring looks ok
Check what oil was used then either change it or drain it and check the filter also and the canister as the bypass valve at the bottom can fail also!
Have the oil pressure checked with a mechanical gauge as your pressure sensor might be faulty
Maybe remove the sumo and check the oil pick up is clear.
Be careful about driving it as at this stage it could be an easy fix to restore pressure but if the engine runs without enough pressure it could cause major damage like cams being starved of oil and there are no cam bearings in these engines, the cams run directly on surfaces machined into the cylinder head, if they get damaged the head is scrap and it's going to start costing a lot
Not trying to scare you just be very careful!

The service tech mangled the filter when installing it. Correct installation of a new filter solved the problem. I also ordered a spin-on filter adapter.

How do you even mess up a filter like that? I have been using Mann filters and I put a little oil on top and bottom where it meets bottom of canister and top were it hits engine. I actually push the filter all the way into the canister and then prefill with fresh oil. Maybe it is easier to mess up than one knows and most of us just get lucky?

If ever change my oil and get low pressure that is the first thing I'll check. I've probably removed the filter 12 times now as I check it once in a while even though I am not changing oil. So far no problems.

I seat mine in the canister first then screw it on. If you don't do this it's almost impossible to get the cartridge back on. There must have been lots of resistance as he threaded the cartridge in while crushing the filter. It should thread in nice and easy.

Get a new filter housing next oil change if you don't get the spin on filter. If I understand the housing correctly, and oil could not get through the filter, it should have gone through the bypass and you still should have normal oil pressure.

As for a shop giving back a car that's in worse shape than when it came in, lazy, unprofessional and inexperienced etc etc. These cars need to be taken to places that know what they are doing.

Knowledge and doing it the right was is the key with these cars, if you do your research first these cars are not hard to work on especially service items , nobody will take care like you do with your own car, to some shops it's just another car, another job especially if it's just a normal shop, For harder stuff ask on here for a good Porsche specialist in your area as they do care and know the cars!! I can't recommend as I'm in the U.K. !!
