Default Added Trim Rings to 996 Instrument Cluster

Because some 996 owners may be interested in this, I have cross posted this over here.

When I swapped the instrument cluster out of my Boxster for a 996 cluster I lost the polished trim rings. As with all cosmetic things, it is a personal taste. I found a listing on eBay for polished rings from a vendor in Poland. Shipped it was $47.15. They are not a perfect match to the larger brushed look of the 986 ones, but they fill a void for me.

I bought a brushed aluminum set 5 or 6 years ago and I think I paid around $140. Then for awhile no one was selling them. I'm sure people will find this post useful.

PS I initially installed mine with glue but they all fell off when it got very cold. I reinstalled them with small dabs of silicone and they've been secure ever since.

That may be some very helpful information. These are held in by pressure. I am not sure how that is going to hold up. Thanks.

I've had great success sticking things onto cars using 3M trim adhesive. Made for weather swings and works great. Even hung a rack in my bathroom using this stuff. Figured I needed an adhesive made for humidity and this seemed to be right. Been there for years now.

That is definitely a good price. When I bought some, mine too were pretty expensive (over $100) and only available in red. I stripped the red paint off then wet sanded them with something like 400 grit to make them brushed aluminum. They came out great, but it took a long time.

I noticed that the ebay listing has both polished and matte aluminum. The matte aluminum looks like it would be a lot closer to the brushed look of the 986.
