What parts to replace on replacement engine?
I am replacing the engine in a 2002 911, with Automatic trans and about 110k miles. Appears that the current engine has either a scored cylinder or cracked head. White exhaust (not oil) exits the exhaust after a few seconds of running. Have done oil analysis, and there is coolant and metal traces in the oil.
The replacement engine has 70k miles, and was running fine before it was pulled. Engine has been cleaned, so no way to see if there is evidence of oil leaking anywhere.
Before putting in new car, I want to make sure I have an exhaustive list of things that should be replaced or addressed on the engine and car, while the engine is out. Naturally, looking for things that are "reasonable" or cost effective. Here is my list so far...please add. I will be doing the work myself.
-IMS bearing
-RMS (Rear Main Seal)
-AOS (Air Oil Separator)
-Spark Plugs
-Oil Filer/Oil Change
-Coolant Replacement
-Water Pump
- Thermostat
-Spark Plugs
-Air Filter
-Auto Trans Filter/Fluid
-Serpentine Belt
- ?????????

Having done the engine drop, refresh and re-install fairly recent on my 996 Tip also, I would suggest replacing the AOS piping O-rings, the coolant reservoir tank if it needed it and any small sensing lines on the rear throttle connector ducting between the intakes and the one line from the tip coolant valve that are aged they are all the same part number and replace any seals that might be leaking on the transmission R/H side drive shaft. Since it will be hard to re-visit the areas once the engine is tossed back in.
Of course you know the preventive maintenance shopping list could go on and on and it's one of those catch 22 dilemmas of don't fix if it's not broken and then the flip side of it should of done it since it was out.
