New to me 2002 C4S
Hello Folks, thought I'd make an intro. Picked it up last week, 80K miles, absolutely in excellent condition, like brand new. Options include full leather, litronics, Bose system, etc. Somebody took really , really good care of it; interior and exterior are essentially flawless. Worst thing on the PPI was brakes were only in fair condition, but the seller then replaced rotors/pads without charge. Unused tool kit, owner's manual / docs are all intact, it really needs nothing except I will miss bluetooth until I get that corrected.
I did lots of research, even still have my Excellence magazines from 1997-2004 so I had a couple dozens articles on 996 to help. Is my 6th P-Car since the first one; I'm coming off of a 968 but keeping it.
My initial target was a C2, but then my heart went all the way to the C4S. The hard requirements were: coupe (no cab, no targa), AWD, Tiptronic, and color is important to me: no black, white, or red, and black interior kills the deal. Been planning this for almost 2 years, then the past 2-3 months searching in earnest and this one came up right here in San Diego -- I am so hesitant to buy remotely -- fly there? Ship the car? Hmmm...
It lived around Pasadena, La Canada its whole life -- if anybody knows this car from the past I'd be very interested to get in touch.
It is really an unbelievable car, handling is something else compared to the 968 which is really more of a GT car (but they are also very special cars and going up in price). So after 11 years, I am back in a 911 (drove an '82 SC Targa for 10 years). The exterior design of the C4S is just gorgeous, spot on, and no "whale tail thingy" which I really dislike.
So.... hello everyone, thanks for letting me join in, I'll be asking questions and hopefully avoid writing annoying things. I spent some weeks reading past things on the forum has been very valuable.
My wife says: "This isn't a car, this is a machine". It is really that good, we love it.

The view other drivers better learn to get used to:
A couple of miles from home, so there are plenty of twistys nearby so I can learn to drive this thing which will take some time.
The herd: 1989 Vanagon Syncro, the 1993 968, and the C4S. All 3 are silver with grey interior which is kinda cool. But in total I have 20 CV boots to maintain!

Glad you got what you wanted. Looks like a nice sample.
I would accept no black, silver, gray. Had to have the 'whale tail thingy', no tip, no AWD, and no 3 spoke wheel.
There's a 996 out there for everyone.

Congratulations, and welcome to the fold. A great write up, and pictures in your intro post? I'm sure you'll fit right in.
The graphite gray interior looks especially nice.

Thanks all for the welcomes and support. Now that it is finally here and all is well, and I played with it for the weekend, and the anticipation has turned into appreciation, maybe the sleep tonight will actually be a bit more restful -- except that the excitement continues!

I realize now I should have included some "next steps". Stuff I need to do:
- Get a 2nd key, it only came with one.
- Find the cabin air filter and check it.
- Test the spare tire air compressor
- I already went to the Porsche Dealer to get past maintenance records. As opposed to the usual sound advice, this car came with very few past maintenance records.
- Get and OBDII Bluetooth transmitter and find a mobile app.
- Buy or make a couple of plugs for the 2 holes for license plate on the front bumper cover. I will run without the front plate.
- Get the clear turn signal lenses -- this isn't for me, this is for the benefit of the 996 community.
- Get updates to some maintenance products: leather care, the "waterless" spray cleaner for touch ups, etc.
- Bluetooth radio options. I am not sure I need the phone function, but will need better music sources. So I'd love to find one where I can disconnect the 6-CD changer and then use that connection to a phone. Perhaps this approach only provides the Aux connection -- may have to live with that, but it isn't really such a good solution (did that on the Vanagon).
- License plate frame.
- Investigate the motor mounts -- I've been reading that subject on the forum, and it is possible my exhaust tips are sagging. But the PPI should have picked that up somehow.

Up until now no mention of the IMS bearing.
Bravo to all and welcome to you.
I've got clears but to buck the trend I've been thinking
of running the pumpkins.
If you want to part with them say the word.
