Default Official 996 Forum Mystery Parts Identification Thread

I am reasonable sure that many of my Fellow New Guys have encountered mystery parts as they shop for their first 996, and especially later when they clean out the debris hidden in their new cars. I hope that this thread will become a source of needed information for myself and my fellows, and a source of good fun and amusement for the old timer's who hang out on the forum.

I'll get this rolling with a couple of questions. Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know what these plastic blocks are?

Found them hiding at the bottom of the truck when inspecting the spare tire. Could not locate them in the PET.

What about these brake calipers?

They are on a '99 C2. I thought that all 99's had black calipers. Are these OEM? The do not look like they have been repainted.

Thank you!

Don't know about the calipers, but I think the two black things are for mounting a front license plate bracket?

Bingo! Thanks dgjks6!

Spacers, part numbers 996 701 801 00 and 996 701 802 00.

I wasn't thinking out of the trunk.

That font on the caliper doesn't look right.

Someone painted the stock black calipers red and applied an aftermarket big letter stencil.

The brake pad sensor wire is not properly tucked in in the photo.

Well, I'm no expert, but I think that one thing is a quarter.

Right you are. My local dealer sells Porsche quarters for $24.87 plus 0.25 shop hours for precision inspection and cleaning before delivery.

I understand the OEM version is $0.25, delivered.
