Hey guys. Been farting around, watching cars on eBay to see what they bid to. Searching sources for cars I find special. Really surprised on the 964s going to $40-$50 for nice 100k mile drivers. Glad I came to grips with my insanity and decided to go water cooled.
Lined up an appointment later this week to see a car I really dig. More later on that.
One thing I've gathered is I don't see many 996s going for the top end of the excellence guide although plenty crappy cars well below. Seems pricing is right in the middle range, actually right where Kelly Blue Book puts them. Even
I find myself liking the MK1 for the price and room for maintenance and mods.
Although, I can't stop looking at the 40th Ann. specs. Idea there is that for my purpose the car is dialed. (40k mile Cars listed at $35,000 not selling......hmmmm )
Either way, they aren't making any more normally aspirated 911s anymore (besides the gt3, 911r and maybe some special edditions). For that, I'm excited to get in the game with a 911 that has a 911 power band!

Hey Guys, had a look at a car today...a fantastic car. Pending a PPI and understanding of the only issue I found I'll be moving forward with it. I can't spoil the reveal yet though!

I have a 1999 996 with aero kit and so far it has been the best car I have ever owned. I use it as my daily driver to work and so far I have put 25k miles since ownership. I did change the clutch, RMS and removed the inner seal of the IM Bearing. I suggest you get one with the aero kit because if later you want to add it, it is extremely expensive to purchase a used one, the oem wing itself retails for $2k - $3k used.

That thing is fantastic! One for sale just like it in Florida. Great looking car, in and out. The aero kits never really worked for me asthetically until you guys started pointing them out. And this photo is an example in a radical color!
Working on the deal of a car. . .PPI showed all very high marks. . .hope to post a photo and more info when/if the deal is done, maybe later this week.

We'll I decided that the 40th's are just to good to ignore.
I want to thank you guys for all the encouragement and advice. I definitely have a new love for the MK1 cars especially with the Aero kit.
All things considered you just get a lot of bang for your buck compared to the MK1s and standard MK2s. Plus, it just seems like the the majority of the 40th's are totally babied. . .buying a well maintained car is worth it. . . this being no exception as the PPI reported. Besides reported excellent mechanical condition, it's all original including no resprays, clear bra protecting the front end. I wish I had a measuring stick to compare to a standard 996, but put I it through some twisties with some straight-aways already and this thing is on serious rails. Loving pushing it through the corner exits! What a blast! I am certainly no expert but even with the internet gives easy and tons of info, these 40ths must still be totally underrated.
Looking forward to some drivers ed days and working up to time trials over the net couple years.
Thanks again guys for following this thread and my quest to 996! BAM!

Congrats! It's a lovely looking car. I think 40AE's will end up being the most desirable of the NA 996s down the road. They probably already are, but valuations still seem relatively low/approachable.
I'd consider grabbing a second set of wheels for it, I've heard that the polished 5-spokes are super expensive if they get dinged up or need replacement.

Great choice! I had a 40th ae and sold it a couple years back. Ended up buying a perfectly modded 996tt which I loved but it was not perfect. I really missed my 40th and just sold my turbo and picked up another 40th. Getting the RMS/IMS/AOS/clutch done as we speak..
Congrats on your purchase and agree the 40th is one very special car. I could have bought a 997.1s or .2s and after driving a couple they didn't do it for me. Lower weight, less electronics and to me it feels more special. It became and easy choice!

Congrats on the 40th!
Stunning car - congrats! I have one, too, and adore it. I sent you a message about your car as I'd like to get some details for our Registry car list to get your car added to it. Please check it out when you have time or email me at 40jahre911@gmail.com. Ted

Celebrated my old mans birthday with him. He's 63 today with a gulf livery daily driver!
Fun little group with a "Normal", a "S" and a "T".
Thanks for all the encouragement guys. Thought I'd share and keep the quest going, now the quest with the 996!
Was a fun drive and breakfast before work. The old man was stoked!
