Insurance: New Windshield and Headlight

Yeah, I don't have to ask that question. I have a budget spreadsheet that goes back 12 years. The premium for every car I own is unchanged by any meaningful amount (less than $1.00/month) across that entire time.
In that time the invoiced amount for comprehensive repairs exceeds $6500.

Just had mine replaced here in CA. Cost $956.18 but I had a $100.00 deductible. Said it was OEM, label says Pilkington and from what I was able to find is that Pilkington makes the glass for Porsche with their name on it. Not sure if there is any difference? Pilkington is a German Company.

Didn't realize this would spark a coverage/insurance debate. Was hoping to simply provide a PSA on the cost of replacements.
Every one of us is going to have different situations and ideals about insurance. There are far too many factors involved for this to be a straight forward internet discussion (driving record, policy limits, credit, insurer, location, age, etc.)
I'll give an update if my premiums should change but if I'm honest I don't expect them to.

In purchasing a 996 I knew I needed a pretty liberal budget for mechanical repairs. I have good insurance and would surely be covered for a situation like this. I cannot help but wonder what is the justification for the high prices on these parts. They do not seem to be able to be explained away by engineering or being 'handmade'. I am starting to rethink if I want to open up myself to these type of expenses.

Now you have a car with one new and one old headlight. The two will old differently. I would have asked the insurance company for a good used one instead.
Regardless, don't throw out the cracked headlight. Someone might be looking for one because theirs has a cracked housing. Swapping out the lenses is not that difficult. Just need and oven and some time.
