Default 5.0 mustang run-in in mexico

2013-14 5.0 GT badged mustang didn't want to let me pass him. I knew he had me covered , but I hit it anyway, ran up to the bottom of 4th and pulled on him the whole time. We went again with him right behind me at a stop light. On the 2nd run I figured he would be on his game, we went to 4th gear again and he couldn't pull on me. I have no doubt a 420 hp GT mustang can take my old 3.4 911. But on this day it didn't happen. Those drives into Mexico are fun..

Maybe he wasn't trying that hard to "pull" on you and wanted to keep his distance to avoid a problem

newer 5.0 mustang "should" walk a NA 996 without much trouble.... but sometimes the stars align.

I agree completely. I am in no way trying to say I have a ringer or something. I fully expected the guy to March right past me the 2nd time. Maybe he missed a gear both times or something, I don't know. I was for sure " given her all she's got captain". I expect a new 5.0 to be somewhere between my 911 and my 440rwhp Z06.

Or maybe he was just worried about Mexico jails.

Very possible. I just expected more from one that's all.

Well one time on a track this summer. *Cough*. I came up behind a shelby mustang. It was newer, guessing 2015. I was behind him for a little bit, and gave him a quick look inside. We came to a pretty straight part and we're doing 27ish. I was in first waiting. As soon as he goes I nail it almost immediately hit second and to my surprise I am on him tight I hear him shift,i hit third WOT. I'm still right thereup too~90 and he's started to walk away, we'll run. But for 7-9 second I was everything he could handle.

Editor's note,i think he didn't see my little cab as a threat and didn't use full rpm/gear to start with. And even though I went on him, again I don't think he was fully committed. So I had the jump. Was lots of fun on that back country road * cough* I mean track.

those 5.0's are not as fast as people think. My friend has one and it IS slower than my 3.6L... and I truly believe it all comes down to the weight vs. power ratio

Performance figures from our test car’s initial visit to the track (after its break-in period) were strong and slightly quicker than our long-term 2013 Mustang GT’s, with a zero-to-60-mph time of 4.3 seconds and a quarter-mile pass of 12.9 at 112 mph.

Thats damn near a second faster than the n/a 996. If you are claiming that your n/a is as fast then your friend needs to learn how to drive.

Mirrors my experience. Last time I raced some new 5.0s I was running 13.3@106 and stock s197s (older live rear axle) were doing 11.7-11.9s@ I can't remember? and a newer IRS s550 was running 13.0 around 111, all stock on similar summer tires.
