Default Cold Air Intake

I just purchased (and had installed) a FABSPEED cold air intake for my 2004 C4S. Although the car sounds great, It seems that the car is now a little "sluggish" or slower as far as quickness goes. I had asked the mechanic if anything (in addition to the installation of the intake) would need to be done to a previous GIAC flash that was completed. They said no. Anything more that I should have asked?

You should have asked: "Will an aftermarket part be able to improve on the result from a team of some of the best automotive engineers in the world?"

The answer is "Usually not."

I actually did ask that, as well as solicited feedback from a couple of fellow 911 owners and they all said it would be quicker and faster. I was hoping for some insight on it.

Give it some drive cycles and some more mileage, the ECU may need some time to adapt to the increased airflow. I would contact GIAC themselves about that ECU tune and see if an optimized file is required when adding hardware on top of an existing tune.

Feel free to give me a call at 215 646 4945 (just ask for John Gaydos).

To each his own, although if you ever decide to test the waters let me know

Hey, good for you that you want to mod your car, make it 'yours'. Fabspeed makes outstanding products, and you've now got a contact who can guide you through. Airboxes get their share of debate.

Also, this forum is for the air-cooled cars, so you may want to post your query to the one specifically including your car.

I've done airbox upgrades on several cars, some were dramatically improved, others just noise and sensation. So get that thing set up right and enjoy your car! Best wishes to you.

Perhaps ask a mod to move this to the 996 forum

Correction ,I don't have the K&N "hot air" intake, just replaced the element, the factory snorkel is already a cold air intake

Hmmm... Interesting. Does yours rub at the top of the CF tube under the decklid fan?? Mine does to the point where it wore through the finish (and several others as well, as discussed in an old thread on 6-speed). i've been going back and forth with Alex from FabSpeed for well over A YEAR (since March of 2015) waiting for it to be replaced. I sent pics, they agreed it was a fitment issue, and he said it would be replaced under warranty, but they "haven't had any 996's available to test fit the new design" whatever that means. Obviously they have either resolved the issue or they are still making the "old" design. If so, keep an eye on it so you dont wear through the finish.
Other than the crappy fit and horrible cust service, Ive been happy with it.
Initially they were very responsive, and had a chance to make me a VERY happy customer..but IM STILL waiting. Hope your luck is better than mine with them!

I swear by my fabspeed products to everyone. I have the intake, super cup exhaust, and headers on currently and without a doubt my car has improved from the day I got it. My cat bypass from fabspeed are en route to my house and I should have tomorrow. Before I put them on I am going to take a video of my current setup minus the cat, and then after and post. I am almost positive that I have video in my phone from when I had exhaust only, then exhaust with intake, then exhaust intake and headers, and will have with exhaust intake headers and cat.

The installation has to be suspect. If there is an intake air leak while it is ahead of the MAF it lets in engine compartment air and this is hot and this can result in diminished performance.

I looked up the kit and it consists of a hose and some carbon fiber thingie and the ad claims a 20% increase in air flow. A 20% increase in air flow should produce more than a few HP gain. I mean that's like bumping the engine displacement from 3.6l to 4.32l. One would expect a pretty big increase in HP from that.
