Default CDR 220 question

My C4 has the CDR220 stereo set up. It has the "Hifi" panel as well. Can that panel be removed without impacting the basic function of the stereo? I would love to put a cubby in its place. And will this somehow effect my IMS bearing? Thanks!

Yep, you remove the "hifi" panel and you know what will happen? It will catch on fire and burn to the ground. HIFI stands for "hell, its'n fire idiot" in German. hahaha (see picture) This guy was in the middle up removing his panel and look what happened...

Post a picture of the panel and maybe we can give you a more serious comment.

Duh, a picture would help. This panel, right behind the shifter.

Ah, now i see... Here's the deal, the cubby should go in place of the CD holder not the lower slot. Save your Hifi controller, but yes the CDR220 will work without the control panel. I had the same radio in my 996.

You can order the shelf online from Suncoast Porsche. They run about $49.00 http://suncoastparts.com/product/shelf986.html

Thanks... Yeah, I have a cubby coming already to replace the CD storage. I noticed they make one to go in that lower area as well. I never mess with that panel, so I figured I would just put a cubby there. I like my music, but am not really obsessed with sound quality. Good to know I can pull it out if I decide to.

Thanks B3!

FWIW on my TT, when I unplugged that panel, I could *not* hear any music.

It's like it disabled the amp section entirely, although buttons & display appeared to work fine.

I have to leave it plugged in all the time, so I took the PCB out of it's enclosure, and leave it tucked out of way, plugged into the harness.

YMMV of course.

Whoosh... good you plugged it back up or would have ended up like that poor soul in my first post in this thread. (snicker)

Thanks Turbo, if I have the same problem, I may steal your solution. Just tuck it back....
