Note a wifi dongle talks to your iphone (or other iOS devices) directly via WiFi and not to your wifi router at home. The dongle acts as an access point (with an SSID and password) so you just associate your iphone's wifi with it.

So, if I am out in the middle of Bufu Egypt and have one of these, I can use it?

Absolutely. The communication is between the iphone and the dongle only. No other access points or wireless routers are needed.
Plug in the dongle (key on engine off) and go to the "WiFi" setup page of the iphone. The dongle will show up as an access point. So just click and connect to it (with the correct password). Once connected, you just fire up the OBD fusion app.

How awful to have to deal with this all of a sudden.
[Sidebar: Re OBD2 readers, anyone have experience with BlueDriver? It comes at a premium and is pretty much the only alternative to Fusion for iOS, but the reviews on A seem to suggest good things.]

Not to further derail the thread, but I bought this off Amazon. Works with both wifi and bluetooth, android and iPhone. Works great.
