Nope. Did oil / filter change 2k miles ago (kept filter that was removed. No metal or anything at all) when IMS and clutch was done. No engine work other than that. Dealer did IMS install and gave some warranty (I have to look up exactly what it was) if it's related at all... Sigh. Car is sitting at dealership now until they can look at it.

Bad news...
Dealership is working it.. metal in the oil...
Have to pull the engine to go any further... $1,500 right there...
L&N single row IMS was installed by dealership less than 2K miles ago (at about 27k miles) proactively following L&N procedures... org. IMS was shipped back to L&N as required (dealership gave me pictures, was limited wear on orig.). I kept the oil filter they took out when they did the L&N install also. If this is IMS related has anyone had experience dealing with warranty on it??
Thank you!!

This would be a very good time to dig out that paperwork and find the details for the warranty you referenced.
Sorry that you seem to be in a bad situation right now - I hope there is some good news waiting.
With 29K miles on the car the car is still "new". (Since the factory warranty is 4 years, 50K miles I classify any car even those more than 4 years old but with less than 50K miles "new".)
So a "new" car can have any number of problems. You did the right thing with the engine feeling a bit down on power to have the car flat bedded to the dealer.

You should give Charles a call at LN Engineering. They will explain what you need to know.

BTW - there are other sources of engine metal in filter besides the IMSB, although it is the most common cause if it indeed failed. You will have to get to the bottom of it in any case. Given the original CEL code as "A" camshaft over advanced and now "metal in the oil," this could be a lot of diagnosis work.

That sucks! Sorry to hear that and I suggest you work with LN and the dealer. LN will examine the parts you sent in carefully and diagnose the issues.

The flashing MIL is indicative of a fault that may cause immediate damage to the emissions equipment, like misfires resulting in unburned fuel being dumped into the cats.
If the light's on - whether it's blinking or solid - pull over and read the codes. IMO, having an OBD-II reader in the car - especially for cars not under warranty - is as important as a spare tire or a set of jumper cables.

Maybe he has a blue tooth OBDii? I do, one in each car I own. They are super cheap on Amazon so why not. Combine that with the Torque app on your phone and there's no need to get a big computer to lug around.
My friend has a Android car deck, everything is streamed live from the ECU right to his car deck/torque app. Its really neat

Coop, do you think or know the dealer was quite experienced with IMS retrofit at the time when they did yours a year ago? 2k miles is extremely short for a ceramic bearing to fail so installation and pre-qualification checks will likely come into question. It's good that you have at least the old oil filter as proof.

I generally have a smartphone in whatever car I'm driving if a code comes up that needs to be researched. As AWDGuy, Mark I, and Ahsai all guessed, I use an OBD-II dongle and my Galaxy S5 most of the time.
However, yes, most days I _do_ have my laptop in my car, since the 996 is my DD. I keep my Durametric in my laptop bag; while I haven't ever used it on the side of the road, I am fully prepared for roadside diagnostics should the need arise.
I have a corded standalone OBD-II scanner in the Corvette since (a) it does not tend to throw mysterious codes, and (b) most LT-1 problems can be fixed with a rock, stick, hammer, or other blunt and heavy object. A little-known fact about Gen 3 Corvettes is they only have four diagnostic trouble codes:
1) One of them sparky thangs ain't workin'
2) Ain't no gas!
3) One of the Cadillac converters is actin' up
4) The rag fell out of the gas pipe. Again.
