Coolant Dump
Soooooooooooooooooooo...
Sitting, waiting for a group to begin a PCA drive Saturday I was a victim of a major coolant dump... arg!!!
After getting it home and replicating it I discovered a fitting that had a broken leg to it that was dumping coolant only after the engine attained high temperature. It looks as though this is some sort of thermal switch, but where would the disconnected leg go to? Also I cannot find this fitting in PET or anywhere else after searching a few hours.
Anyone out there know what this is and can you help me with a part number? It looks like a fairly simple fix.

Might be the fitting for the hose that goes to the AOS. If so, I think it is called a "joining socket" and maybe p/n 996 106 226 51 (or 52). Look that one up and see if it matches.

I don't know the fitting, but I know that someone else here will help out.
Are you CERTAIN it was that fitting? My 986 started dumping coolant between laps at Autocross, and the culprit was the $20 cap.

It's definitely that fitting where the break is and it is a pressurized flow after a certain temperature is reached. I am also wondering what if i just bridge the fitting and leave the hose as it is...
rockhouse66, I've read about that socket and I don't think it is that. This is a 3 leg fitting with the main flow hose ~5/8" and the "now broken" leg ~1/4".

Ahsai, thx that's the part I found also. Do you know where the "tap" hose goes. I now suspect that this main line is part of a thermostat bypass?

The smaller hose goes to either the AOS or the oil/coolant heat exchanger. I can't recall right now. In any case, I don't think it's a good idea to modify anything.

Yes it goes on the bottom pointing o the rear of the car. It looks like there was a previous Jose that was larger/longer that incorporated the down hose that splits.
