Question Alarm?!?!

I've searched here, read the manual, and still cannot figure out the alarm on my '02.

Can someone explain how it works, how not to set it off merely getting in the car, etc?

Unfortunately, the keyless remote function appears to be inop on my car, and I've not been able to get in and replace them yet.

Thank you,

Ted...

You have 30 or 60 seconds to put the key in and turn it to the on position before the alarm goes off.

When my keyless system has disabled itself due to inactivity my process is to unlock the door, open it, then immediately put the key in the ignition and turn it. I do that before I even get in the car.

In the inactivity situation, you can just unlock the door with the key (don't open the door), then click the button in the key to unlock the car "completely". Once you manually unlock the door the key button now works.

Not in our 01. The remote won't actually work again until I press the "manual" (un)lock button on the dash while the car is on.

Progress it seems... the 02's and 03's work that way! Can you roll windows down with the key on 01's?

Physically in the cylinder, yes. Not from the remote.

Still confused about how the system in our '02 works... Sometimes I guess I turn the key the wrong way and soon as I open the door the alarm sounds. I would really prefer to just disconnect the alarm completely...

Yeah I hate when that happens. I've gotten better but it still gets me about every 3rd time.

The alarm control module is under the driver seat. I'm not sure what happens if you disconnect it. It may take out the central locking as well. Hopefully someone else that has had theirs fry due to water can chime in answer that.

Yes. I really don't care at all about having an alarm.
