Default Improving stock Litronic

While i have the Litronic on my 04 C4S, i do find it not as bright in today's standard. Has anyone swapped out another pair of bulbs with better lumens?

I searched, but a lot of threads are about regular bulbs going to HID, what about Litronics to brighter bulbs? is there any choice?

My guess would be, find the stock bulb number and see online what's available. Usually, there will be cooler or warmer bulbs available.

The sucky projectors are more of the limiting factor. There's been members here that have taken it apart and sanded/polished the projectors to achieve better lighting results. Either way, whether getting new bulbs or sanding stock projectors might only achieve marginal results depending on what types of improvements you're looking for.

Also unlike incandescent bulbs where lumen output goes down with use, HID bulbs generally tend to suffer from more color shift over time than lumen degradation.

Bulbs wear out over time too and don't put out the same level or temperature of light as they do when new. Just putting new stock bulbs in could make a world of difference too.

You could opt for a 55w replacement ballast. I am currently running this set up and its an improvement over stock

Do the stock litronic bulbs last a while? Im on my originals and its a 2001 car. Plan on removing the headlights to polish them so may replace them with a stock pair.

My 2001 C4 Litronics are not as bright as my 07 Mini with Xenon. (same thing BTW). Neither are as bright as my after market projectors on my M3 dang near daylight.

+1

I put new OE spec bulbs in my C4S and it made a significant difference.

Dennis, Did you opt for the OE bulb from Porsche or another supplier?

I went with the OE bulb. I ordered it online from Pelican Parts. It's tempting to order a "whiter" color temperature like 5,000K or 6,000K as opposed to the OE 4,300K bulbs. There are many posts on this and many things written about it. While the whiter bulbs have an appealing look, they compromise when it comes to lighting performance. This is especially true in inclement weather with limited visibility conditions. 4,300K its the best way to go for optimal lighting.

I do still feel that the HIDs in my 997 are slightly better than they were in the 996, even with new bulbs. It may just be the design. The HIDs in my wife's Audi are better than the HIDs in the 997. I suppose the technology continues to improve.

I'd agree with these points, though I'd add that ride height plays a part too I think. Our 01 996, 07 328xi, and 13 958 all have their respective HID variants. The Cayenne is the best of the bunch by far followed by the BMW and then the 996.

Even with old bulbs/ballasts and occluded housings the 996s are still better than any Halogen headlights.
