The 996 has been getting some good write ups lately , particularly in the UK Porsche magazines.

I attach some scans

Even the esteemed journalist mentioned the usefulness of some well placed WD40 to deal with some finicky maintenance issues!

Nothing better than doing something smart before everyone else, and then have people recognize it.
Take THAT, 991ers!
Thanks for posting these articles. Most informative, even for C4S owners.

For me one of the best Articles I 've read since buying my 996 was this one about the 996 CSR built by RPM Technique in the UK.

it influenced the mods I've just done to my car.

I wanted to tweak the handling mostly so I've added
a set of H&R street performance coilovers and swaybars ( I wanted to improve things but not go as hard as a gt3 and for the street I didn't need full adjustability, and the price is great ) this should improve the handling and dropped the car an inch to bring it to the European ride height.

I also added a full set of powerflex bushes ( every single one) , the street purple ones . It also got gt3 topmounts .
the csr car didn't get bigger disks or 6 pot calipers , I've been debating these but the csr car got performance brake pads and seems ok . (the stock brakes on a 996 are pretty good to start with)

so along with new rotors I fitted cool carbon pads & goodridge SS brake lines.

one section of the article they are somewhat critical of the wavetrack diff , I had been thinking of a geared diff but this article put me off a bit and suggests that a platted lsd suits the character of a 911 better .
So what to do , a Porsche diff is $ 5K from the dealer , and a Guard Transmission diff is not cheap.
asking around the local indy shops , the Porsche lsd diff got very bad reviews for durability.

so I was saving up for a GT diff.
one night I typed "Porsche 996" into ebay and found a Porsche lsd out of a 2004 40th anniversary model for $400.
I phoned Guard Transmission to find out about rebuild and upgrade costs and feasibility for this diff.
"no problem Zac " GT makes a full set of internals (ramps, plates etc) to bring this diff where it should be. with 40/60 split.

and it was in the budget I had already saved for the GT diff. So my car is at Scan in North Vancouver getting it installed now. I saved about 1800 bucks going this way

anyway I thought I'd share the article which inspired me to tweak my 996.

Could you just post the whole magazine?

Don't know if I would call the article positive stating that the 996 is cheap because they built too many and they had a lot of problems?
