Default Tire question, I know, everyone's favorite thread

I have a 2003 mk2 carrera coupe. I have 18x10 stock wheels and 15mm spacers in the rear. I want to put a 295 tire on the rear, but the only 295x30 tires I can find are summer tires. There is an all season 295x35 tire available, but I'm worried that size may be too big or cause others issues like rubbing. Anyone out there have experience using that size on a C2 ?

I'd stick with the 30's myself but can't say for certain if 35's will rub or not. They'll be approximately 7.5mm taller into the wheel well then 30's so go measure and see what it looks like for a start. (I still wouldn't do it though personally)

285mm x 30% = 85.5mm (stock)
295mm x 30% = 88.5mm
295mm x 35% = 103.25mm

From stock, it's a 17.75mm (0.7") increase in radius and 1.4" in overall diameter compared to stock. It may be barely OK on stock suspension. I wouldn't feel comfortable but that's me.

Are you also increasing the width of the front tire? and obviously getting the same tire make front and back.

If you are keeping the skinny 235 up front I can tell you the car is going to develop one huge push through the corners.

The question in my mind when I read your post is: Why do you want to put 295 width tires on the back of the car? I would expect the answer to be that you want to maximize grip, but if you're putting all-season tires on the car, then this is probably not the answer. Is it a specific look that you're trying to achieve that you can't get with spacers?

996 C4S and turbo cars feature 295 width tires on 11x18" wheels, not on 10x18" wheels. I think they will still work on a 10" wheel, but they will really bulge over the edges of the wheel. Have you considered that?

I'm not trying to bust your chops, I'm just trying to understand your goals with the 295 width tire to help with solutions.
