Help identify this engine hose and connector
So I'm replacing my alternator/starter y-cable, which came out in horrible shape. When I got behind the alternator, I found these two surprises.
The wire connector has obviously been disconnected for a long time as it is quite corroded. It appears that it comes from somewhere behind the starter. In the pic I have it resting on top of the starter so that I could snap a picture.
The braided hose was disconnected as well. It comes from the left-hand side (drivers side) of the engine, next to the starter.
Anyone that can help??

Spoke to my indy.
He said that it's common to have extra electrical connectors due to the use of a universal wiring harness. He suspects the connector looks so corroded because it's never been used on my car, possibly due to being some sort of connector for Tiptronic, while mine is a manual.
And it appears the braided hose came off of some small nipple just behind and to the drivers side of where it was connected to the valve in the picture.

Would an error code throw a check engine light? If so, then I have zero error codes.
