Dead 2002 996 Convertible
Thank you in advance for any guidance you may have. I replaced the top cylinders on my car last night and inadvertently left the key in the ignition. When I went out this morning the driver window was down and the car is dead. I have tried opening the hood with the jumper in the fuse box following the procedure of opening the box, opening the car door lock, leaving the key in the door and attaching the jumper. I am using the door striker as my ground. I get a spark when I attach a batter charger but nothing on the car responds. I have tried using key fob, key in ignition. No response. Alarm does not sound. My aftermarket radio has a flashing light with or without the battery charger connected. Otherwise nothing in the car functions or responds. Your thoughts are appreciated.

I thought all you had to do was connect the + of your charger to the bayonet in the fuse panel and the - to a good ground. No key position required to power the release mechanism
Double check your connections, and afterwards reroute the manual release cables to accessible locations.
There is a DIY for that here on the site.

I have checked and rechecked the connections to the bayonet. Trying to see if the 2002 has a cable to release good. Bentley shop manual says it doesn't.

I thought I read somewhere that some guys have gone in through the bottom of the engine bay to get some power. There is a (+) post just above and toward the passenger side of the airbox.

Are you trying to jump it to pop the hood using a trickle charger? How many amps it can provide? You need something like a real battery such as a booster pac to pop the hood. Try use jumper cables connected to a car battery of another car. Then connect the jumper cables to the fuse box jump point and door latch.
If you don't have another car, you can trickle charge your battery via the cigaretter lighter socket (with the right plug).

Ashai you solved it! I was using a 10 amp charger. Note enough amps. Borrowing jumper cables and using one of my other cars allowed the hood to open. Charger on it and I will replace the battery first chance.
