Default When Did Traction Control Start?

I was under the impression that all 996s had traction control. Looking at my '99 996, I saw the TC button (found it in the owners manual) was a blank dummy. And a shop guy said TC wasn't introduced until later.

How much later?

I have it in my '99 along with LSD and they are listed on the options tag.

Edit: my '99 was built in late '98.

Mine was built in '98 as well. Maybe it was an option at that point??

Very interesting thread (I tried search, but didn't find this).

PO didn't check the box, so I guess it's no TC (pre-PSM) for me.

After all the nannies on my Cayman this will be fun!

Like isla my '99 has both TC and LSD. Bear in mind that this version of TC only works on the rear wheels and all it does is use the brakes to control a slipping wheel. It is rare for the LSD to be overwhelmed enough to invoke the TC, unless the car goes airborne. When TC is invoked a dash light lights which usually makes me chuckle. PASM is much more sophisticated but at the expense of being more intrusive.

My 99 has TC.
Anybody happen to know the code number for LSD?

LSD is 220 and 224. 220 is the ratio for accelerating, 224 is the ratio for braking.
