Interior touch-up paint?
Does anyone know of a source for matching interior touch-up paint? Brush and/or spray. My '01 996 interior is in excellent condition except for a couple of spots where the paint has chipped revealing the black plastic underneath. Thanks in advance!

Depends on the color and finish you're looking for. If your car has painted consoles (ie. the artic silver ones are fairly common), check out Automotivetouchup.com
For colors like Boxster Red like my car though, that's tougher. I haven't done it but I think red plastidip is probably the closest match; and you can always shade it darker with their "smoke" if it comes out too bright.

I took the Savannah colored ashtray from my car and had it color-matched at home depot in a latex flat enamel combination top coat/primer. I routinely cover up scratches and it looks very good.

+1. SEM paint is perfect. Looks, feels, and smells like interior car finish. Just hope you can find your color. I asked SEM about my color (stone grey) and they referred me to a local rep that would mix up a match for me. meh, too much trouble.what I picked was close enough for now.

If these are scratches on little plastic parts, you can still buy pretty much everything from the dealership or online through Pelican or ECS. Touch up is a temporary solution, but it will eventually flake and will never look perfect.

You can get exact matching dye from this retailer.

I got some graphite grey to touch up the plastic around the power seat buttons, and it came out great.

Replacing the part will only result in the same problem. So replacing the part is both expensive AND temporary.

These are old cars, normally we are correcting for years of wear by previous owners. If you are careful with your 996 interior you won't get nicks, chips, and irregular wear. It's not as if the interior pieces get scratches and damage all by themselves.

I got the Home Depot machine matched paint - be sure to ask for the sample size - and it is terrific!
Wipe off any grime with alcohol, let dry, and touchup the nicks. I used a Q-tip to apply and it flows in nicely.
Yes, a concours judge might identify that they've been repaired, but no one is else likely to know.
And I think the touchup will hold up as well as the original paint did.
BTW, I plan to use the $$$ I saved by not replacing serviceable interior pieces to do another track day!
