Default First Drip coming from?

My car has it's very first drip. Based on where it was on the garage floor I initially thought RMS or oil filter. Upon closer inspection it is coming from the bottom of what I have circled in the pricture. The drip collects where the arrow is pointing two. What is this cover? Now for the strange part. The drip actually smells sweet and I think it may be coolent. Where would coolant be coing from in location to this? thanks in advance.

The oil cooler above uses coolant to cool the oil. Possible O-ring issue?

Your red circle surrounds the bolt-on endcap for the coolant manifold. You need to replace the gasket. Gasket is cheap, coolant is not.

I had that leak before. Byprodriver is right that it's coolant behind. I think about 1gal will gush out if you remove it.

Don't buy the gasket. Just but the cover, which has a built-in rubber gasket.

Lay on the ground and look past the oil filter up a little higher.

I assume the engine must be dropped to do this? Can't see how it can be done with engine in the car.

Searched the Pet for part number without luck. Hope someone can provide it for me

Don't need to drop the engine. It's right there after you jack up your car and look.

The part is 99610101600

Keep in mind coolant will gush out when you remove that cover.

Anytime, guys. The rubber gasket behind hardens and that causes the leak.

Very nice hi-res photos here.

Any idea what the torque value is supposed to be for those 2 bolts? Also, any thoughts on using yamabond in addition to the metal gasket...

There is no metal gasket. Look at the link above where you can see the back of the cover, there's a rubber gasket like an o-ring. The two bolts are small so I just tightened them up by feel. Really doesn't take much force to seal.

I have a 2001 996 and i don't have the rubber gasket. Mine has the metal gasket that is the same material as the water pump gasket. I am rebuilding my engine and am at this step right now...can't find the torque spec for this in the shop manual.

Gotcha. If those are M6 bolts, 7.5ftlb should be good.
