Default [996] Better sound, just mufflers?

Greetings, I'm interested in getting a better exhaust sound from my 996 -98 with a low budget.
Is it worth it to only replace the mufflers to stainless or is it a waste of money?
Low budget due to spoiler and dectane tail lights, but yet so much nice things to fix but still keep it clean...
Shoul I rather save for a proper full exhaust system, or is it worth it to go with just replacing the mufflers?

Thanks in advice!
With kind regards, Jonathan.

Bonus video from my previous 986 (Keep in mind that this is my old car, the thread is about my "new" 996 -98:

Found this for sale, for a 996 3.4 / 3.6.
Is this original or stainless sport system?
My eyes can't tell...

Just mufflers will work - depending on which mufflers. When I had my Tubi Style mufflers, my car was (in my opinion) perfectly loud. When I added cat delete pipes, it was FAR too loud. If you choose a good muffler (or do the most recent iteration of the exhaust hack on your stock mufflers), I think you'll be satisfied.

Could you explain the exhaust hack some more? (Swedish google sends me to wiered places when trying to google it for some reason.)
Price?

With regards, Jonathan.

Or you can keep the old mufflers and go the old popular FisterD route. Welding in a piece of pipe between the inlet and outlet of the existing mufflers. Cheapest way to get what you are after. I added a 2" pipe. My friend did it for me, but even if you had to pay for it it shouldn't be more then $200. This is what mine look and sound like. Cheers!

Similar to this I assume?

Made some more research and found the "PSE" mod/hack. Seems to be the best alternative? And quite easy to restore to "stock" incase it would be too loud. And I assume the sound changes depending on the size of the pipe?
Like below but perhaps with 1.5".

No you don't want to do the PSE hack. It also involves welding in a piece of pipe but not in the same place and not with the same results. Won't be loud enough. Just google FisterD, you'll see.

So not obnoxious? The clip on their website seems like it is rather loud

The beauty of the Fister mod is that if you hate it, you pay the exhaust guy a few bucks to undo it.

I haven't found any cutouts that will fit in that area, but that would be awesome - a 2" cutout to Fisterize at the flip of a switch...

It is not too loud at all. At low throttle I thought it was stock, and at wide open throttle it is just so wonderful! Once you get above 4K RPM's it just sings and goes through resonance frequencies. When you shift from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th on the highway it's almost like a race car if you get it just right.

But if you have the cruise control set at 120KM/hour, it's like you don't have an exhaust on the car.

Do it, you won't regret it. And I DO NOT like loud exhausts. This is the perfect mod.

I've googled so much I've manged to mix then together.
I got the 996.1 (gen 1) with a 3.4L engine.
I assume that the picture I posted above would be the "gundo" right?

There's like 4 diffrent hacks, and quite hard to tell which is which with all the homemade rebuilds.
Can someone link me / send me pictures of a FisterD hack on a 3.4 where it's easy to see what's been done so I can do it myself / have pictures to show the guys doing it for me.

Keep in mind that I don't want the exhaust to sound like it's leaking.

Fister D all the way! http://fdmotorsports.net/fister-exhaust-996

I just wish I had a convertible to hear the sound better. In a coupe, I don't call it loud at all even at WOT.

Yeah I just found this on their website, but says for gen II (3.6).
Would the 3.4 be the same? I mean look exactly the same?
And what pipe size would you go for?
Sorry for all the questions, but I rather ask than over search. The technical english is quite hard to understand when it's not your native language.
