Default Rear spoiler warning light

While test driving a '99 996 the other day my wife noticed a red warning light on the dash that was a picture of the spoiler with a down arrow. I thought maybe it was just illuminated as the spoiler drops when you reduce speed. Anything I should be checking out?

Does it have an aero kit/wing or is it the standard recessed wing? Reason I ask is that some aftermarket additions of the aero kit cause the red warning light to come on since the stock spoiler was removed. The fix is to remove the bulb.

If there is not spoiler you may have a failing component.

Or buy the fixed spoiler harness (for Aero cars) from Porsche ~$60.

Check the operation of the spoiler. Does it go up at 75 and back down when slow down (around 35)? Does it go up and down manually using the button on the lower kick panel? My light comes on sometimes but resets after I stop and the spoiler goes down. Seems to still work ok.

Well, I didn't know where the manual button was.... I knew it existed but didn't see it on the dash. If the deal progresses, I will check it out.

I believe it's at least $100 now is good ol Porsche fashion. Same thing with all their other parts like the ROW kit which jumped from under $1k just a couple years ago to $1400 now.
