Post Is this the Tubi Style sound?

Gents,

Recently installed a pair of Tubi style exhausts on my 996 cab a few thousand miles ago. In general, I like them but I have some reservations. For example:

Windows up, the sound is amazing. Much louder than stock and it just builds and builds all the way to redline.
Top down, it's loud and throaty till about 4k rpm. At this point, the growl switches to a trumpet blast. I found a description of it on Renntech that sums it nicely:
" It maxes out at about 4,000 rpms and develops a trumpet-like brrrraaaaaaatttttttt that I don't like at all. Below 3,500 rpms it sound great. The growl off the line is gnarly and cool. If you shift up below say 3,600, it's OK. If you shift up above that rpm, it sounds like a trumpet, or some cheap accura or KIA 4 cyl. joke. I'm hoping it will mature to a more sedate sound as it ages."
Is the "brrrraaaaaaatttttttt" the Tubi Style sound?

Would adding 200 cell cats likely exaggerate this sound?

I've tried to record it with several different mics, but all usually only pick up distortion. Anyone with Tubi cans that can confirm?

I have them and I guess it does change into more of a trumpet but mine doesn't sound bad at all, actually more like the older f1 cars, nothing like a Honda fart can. I do have evoms CAI, plenum, bored tb though. And I'm about to reinstall my headers and cat bypass pipes again.

Yes, that's the Tubi sound. Any ear that can't distinguish between the Tubi cans and a Honda fart can needs to be recalibrated.

Aftermarket headers and high-flow cats will make it louder. If you like the sound but wish it was slightly deeper, sport cats in an x-pipe configuration will add some volume to the exhaust system and conceivably could result in a deeper sound.

One vision of heaven for me would be a 20-mile-long circular tunnel and a 996 with Tubi cans that never runs out of gas - but as no one ever said, beauty is in the ear of the beholder.

I'm not sure why people who don't actually want to hear more engine sound invest hundreds/thousands in aftermarket exhaust systems.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm just trying to verify the sound is right before I start bolting on more stuff. For example, it seems I may have another issue with my cats rattling around that is adding some extra odd noise into the mix. I've discussed that in a separate thread.

I've driven other 996's with stock, fister D's, and Fabspeed mufflers. I chose Tubi because a) you can easily control the sound with your right foot, b) NO drone, none, and C) the sound is unique.

Alpine, I just ordered the Evoms intake as well. Have you had any experience with sport cats vs cat bypass?

Thanks Zookie. Seems like a positive review of the Fabspeed cats.
Did you tune your ecu after all of those mods?
