O2 sensor - coinsidence?
When I bought my 996 about 8 months ago the sensor that detected if the clutch was depressed had a zip tie on it. There was no need to press the clutch while starting. I did not think much about it other than likely the switch was faulty.
Yesterday I went out and decided to take it off as I was going to replace with new switch. To my surprise it seemed to work fine.
Soon after went on a 30 minute drive and the check engine light came on. The code was for the o2 sensor.
Is it even possible the 2 are related? Does having the switch pressed as if the clutch is in somehow change the engine dynamics enough to mask a problem?

If you're talking about the clutch switch that prevents the starter from starting unless the clutch is depressed (seems like you are), I think it's very unlikely since the sole purpose of that switch is to cut the power to the starter UNTIL the clutch pedal is depressed fully. Once the engine is running, it serves no purposes.
