Question Is PCM Retrofit really impossible?

the nav system REALLY can't be retrofit? Found this for $1300...

wouldn't it just be a question of mounting the gps antenna and maybe changing the wiring harness plug?

Default PCM I vs. PCM II

you probably already know, but that picture is of a PCM I, rather than a PCM II unit? I have never used the PCM I, but I think the PCM II is excellent. If you're going through the trouble of a retrofit, wouldn't you do PCM II?

I saw a 996 with GPS retrofit yesterday at the Rusnak service drive. There's a large GPS antenna mouse like thing on top of the roof right behind the front windshield. Strange place to install the antenna... seems like the wire came out of the area where the windshield and roof meets. Whose car is that by the way?

Matt,
What model year do you have? If you have pre-02, they you 'could' put PCM I into you car. Give Paris Audio in LA (I think) a call. Supposedly, someone over there has done it. You can't do PCM II, cause its on a fiber optic network. If you have a post MY02, I have no idea if PCM II can be retrofitted....

I have the latest Tequipment Boxster catalog.

It has a picture of PCM II and a part number of 000 044 900 70. Says it is for vehicles built after 8/02 with MOST, which is MY03. Of course this unit will not work with the older cars as they do not have MOST. Jeff

Ok, so this seems to be the spot. I have an 03 c4s with the bose, non-nav, radio. I just recently on eBay bought the PCM 2 headunit only (just the screen unit) to try and get the factory navigation system in the car. I can't find anyone to help me with the other parts that I need to do the retro fit. Do I need the navigation module or is that built in?

I thought it would be pretty "cookie cutter," but I can't seem to get anyone who know what parts i need without taking about the center console.
Can you help with the parts needed and any install advice?

I would really appreicate any light you could shed. I'm lost! Thank you,

Jon Pirie (jonpirie@hotmail.com)
