Bought my avatar 356 in 65, my C2 996 in 98 and still driving it pretty much daily. Lots of other cars in between... Bought my GTS croc as a 70th bday gift to myself. 😎

^very interesting ownership story & others as well
03 C2 purchased at 34, first Porsche. Old Saab Turbos, a Z06 and a 350z were my gateway drugs. Nothing quite matches the balanced experience of the 911. Quiet road trip in comfort, date nights, work on nice days, canyon runs, even track if the opportunity arises. Not out of place in any situation.

The graph that the poll results make is very interesting. I suspect there are a fair number of people here with a 996 that are the original owner, and certainly there are plenty of new owners such as myself that are here because these cars have become so affordable.

Polls like this, however, are kind of broken in my opinion. I know I've aged a bit since I originally voted/answered and the results don't really reflect that.

First Porsche was 1969 911T which I had for several years until I married, had to sell the Porsche for down payment on first house. Owned a lot of British cars after that, then got in in racing water cooled VW's in the 80's, then had kids so racing was put on back burner. Never thought I would own a Porsche again. Last year started looking for an older sports car to mess was considering buying an early Boxster, then came upon 1999 C2 and a deal I couldn't pass up. Purchased it last summer and I couldn't be happier having a Porsche again. Born 1947. Xx

I still think we need a semi-monthly meetup. That way you can pretend to be socially active and doing things when it's basically just a way to talk behind the backs of everyone else on Rennlist!

Yeah, though there's surprisingly few younger people. I'd have expected the age distribution to skew that way in recent years, given the relative affordability of buy-in. Maybe they're all getting Caymans or M3s.

I am 28 and had dreamed of owning my 996 911 since they came out. I always said I would have one before 30 (also said that about a kid but that is still gonna wait awhile lol) and just purchased mine 5 months ago and couldn't be more thankful. It truly is a dream
