Default Oil Leak

Hello all!

Need some help. Can anyone identify the leaking part in this picture? It's leaking on the passenger side of my 2001 996 C4. The picture is taken looking front front to back. At first it would seem a leaking head cover, however the oil seems to be originating from the part covered with wet oil in the center of the image.

Any help is appreciated!

"Leak" doesnt begin to describe this. Why dont you try cleaning it first? Makes it much easier to pinpoint leak.

Looks pretty caked on. I agree, try cleaning it up and see where its coming from. If its not the valve cover, maybe the caps at the ends are leaking.

Your oil pressure sending unit lives above that area. They do leak often accompanied by wild fluctuations in indicated oil pressure.

That looks like the bank 1 camshaft end plug (green plug) to me. If you wipe the oil off it'll be a plastic cover that's literally green. Should be about an inch in diameter.

If the plug itself is the leak then it's easily replaceable. Pry it out with a screwdriver and hammer a new one in. Just a warning - bank 1 access to the cam cover is very tight.

Final note - I don't think these things are notorious for leaking. It might be something else on the head.

Edit: I called it the wrong name. Here's a link to it on Pelican
