Default New Member Question / Thoughts.

1. Love the car. Did a PPI, Drove 300 miles and picked it up. A fair price.

2. The mods that I know are done are.

Upgraded diverter valves , upgraded intake and a 2.5 Speedtech "Quiet" Exhaust.

Hate the noise of the Exhaust. Do have the original. Can i "de-tune" the sppedtech so I can hear myself think? Or do I need to re-install the original. How much (approx) would it cost?

3. Did get a 4 snows tires and wheels (OZ Alleggerita wheels and Michelin Pilot Alpine's) Will they be adequate for Minnesota?

4. Need a cup holder - planing to get these? - http://www.ultimatecupholders.com/containers.html thoughts?

5. Radio sucks - Have the PCM with nav (is that the same as BOSE?) planning to get a modern system (carplay, bluetooth etc) - recommendations?

6. No way to program garage doors? Oh well, minor quibble.

7. What is this? (see pic) previous owner does not know - How could he not? Very suspicious that it launches missiles at North Korea.

Mysterious green button.

8. Floor mats for sleet, snow and rain - How about these? - https://www.lloydmatsstore.com/rubbertite-floor-mats

9. One key works, the other 1/2 works. The physical key will physically open the car, start the car, but the button does not function (I did replaced the battery) red led light does flash. But no action on the car side. Mysterious. This may be a signal being interrupted by the Illuminati.

10. Here is my options sticker . I tried to decode them all, No luck.

Options, options options

I will add to this post as I come across more discoveries.

I plan to join the local Porsche club.

Green light looks like a SprintBooster. depending on the model it will have one or three diffrent settings to adjust throttle response.

I have the ultimate cupholder. Works fabulous for water bottles, thermos, etc. I have never put a coffee cup in it, but it would probably work.

Options can be found here:

If you decide to go back to the original exhaust, let me know as I am in the market for an exhaust that is much louder than the stock one.

I have 2 Ultimate cup holders and I can confirm they are great for coffee or anything. I inadvertently got coffee on my almost new Pioneer AVIC8200 head unit and destroyed it when I had a thermal cup in the factory cup holder. Fortunately the audio dealer and the local Pioneer rep got me a replacement under warranty. Truly great service. BTW that Pioneer is a super unit for my needs but we did build a sub enclosure where the factory Bose would go and the sound is perfect for me. Not too much bass but really well balanced sound. Even with the top down at 75.

I bought the Lloyd's Rubbertite mats a few years ago to use in the winter and have ended up using them year round. Good fit, they stay in place very well with the supplied anchors, and I like how they look.

For radio options, take a look at Car Audio Innovations (www.cai-store.com) for ideas. The owner, Rod Birch, has a 996 and has put in some time and effort figuring out what works. I used one of his kits to install a Kenwood double DIN head unit and have been happy with the results.

There's an easy mod to install a targa top switch and wire it up to your garage door opener. Use one of the blanks in the center radio surround trim piece, and stow the parts behind it. I did mine 5 years ago and have yet to change the battery.

Congrats on your purchase! You are not going to believe how great these cars are.

Garage door hack.
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...tall-vid.html#

Some additional tips, use a "home link" from any car. EBay.

Pull power for it from the phone prep plug behind the cubbie(s) in the center stack. BRN = Ground Y/BLK = Phone mute GRN/BLK = Switched 12V RD/GRN = un-switched 12V.

Get a Plug with wires for the phone prep plug, or use individual bullet connectors. (This one is from EBay)

I bought a Continental radio. Looks correct and the Bluetooth works well. It has a USB slot on the front so I can plug in my music.
A rennlister sells them. Just do a search. I bought the base model and the 996 harness for just over 200.
I wanted a modern radio but did not want to take away from the original look.
